one standout that i noticed about tyson was that except for towards the end of his career, he was as fresh and hungry in round 10 as he was in round 2. extremely fit individual. anyone agree?

ya he was always in great shape early in his career. Never gassed out or looked really tired until douglas fight, which he didn't really train for anyway.

Yes, when he was under the tutelage of Cus D'mato he was truly a beast. If Mike was not mental instable he would've achieved something really great.

    Not according to Tyson

And to the OP, no. Tyson was definitely much fresher early on in fights and you could see him slow down or get a little discouraged after 8 or so rounds.

Tyson has what 1 KO after 7 rounds? I know a lot of guys tried surviving but still.

It's hardly a standout to be honest. Tyson explodes with power and speed. But among the elite HW swarmers (Although I prefer to recognize Tyson as a mid-range bomber), Tyson stamina is probably the worst. Marciano, Frazier, Dempsey clearly exuded much better stamina. Even Tua did in his prime.

the only reason he does not have too many late ko's is only because he ko'd most opponents before then, lol.

of course he got tired to some degree, every fighter gets fatigued the longer the fight goes, that's common sense.

of course with the power that he had he was going to try and knock his opponent out sooner rather than later. why fight for 12 rnds when u can win in 3.

you watch the way tyson unleashes on jose ribalta still in rnd 8 and 10 when he gets a sniff of blood. he is like a pitbull. not many heavies had that type of hunger still in rnd 8 as in the 2nd rnd.

It is a myth that Tyson didn't train for that fight. He took an absolute beating and no way could he have survived so long if he hadn't trained.

Maybe its because he was a great fighter and as a great fighter, he wasnt just going to lie down for Douglas within a couple of rounds....
Douglas was a fluke as he proved in his next fight
This is fairly obvious by the look on Tyson as they escort him out of the ring after he's lost, he knows he got duped

tyson lived off other boxers fear of him and douglas was the first person who never really seemed to be terrified of him. they can blame him not training for the fight but that all comes down to HIM. nobody should try to take awat the fact that buster douglas showed the world that tyson was beatable and to be honest i don't think tyson ever recovered from this defeat.

He DID rcover from the defeat, he went on to beat the likes of Alex Stewart (who gave Holy hell) and Razor Ruddock, these were the top contenders at the time and he walked through them, he even gave Ruddock a rematch just to prove things, the only people left were Holyfield, Old Man Foreman and a Douglas rematch.
He was on his way to regaining his crown when.... well u know the rest

Tyson would have wiped the floor with Holyfield anytime before prison

After Prison what we got was just a cardboard cutout of Mike Tyson

i disagree that he ever really recovered from the defeat completely, he was still a menace but i think that defeat just took a little bit of his belief away. never said that he was finished after it. i just think that all tyson fans can't just admit he was beat by douglas and they shouldn't diss douglas for beating him by making lots of excuses.

  12. Tyson was very conditioned especially early in his career but he and trainers would point out he would turn down the pressure after 6-7 rounds.

As you know Tyson could ko guys all stages in the fight though.

Agree! Prime tyson beats them all in 3 rounds. Prime tyson bulldozes his way to ko ali, foreman, frazier etc... Simply tooo strong!

The way i see it is
Tyson would give Ali his toughest fight. He was much faster than foreman and frazier, not necessarily harder hitting and we all know speed kills.

People can say all that crap If Douglas could beat Tyson so could Ali

Well i like to say If Cooper put Ali on his ass, Frazier/Norton outpointed him then so could Tyson

Its the punch u dont see coming which is what i believe Cooper caught him with
(Prime) Tysons got plenty of those

Its only when he slowed down and started throwing predictable 1-2s that people could take his punches better

if only the current heavies could watch replays of mike and get inspired to enter the ring as fit as they can be.
