Me neither...Peter's gotten himself into better shape again, but really Wlad's going to happily bounce him off the longest of long jabs until he's ready to pass out then drop the hammer.

I can't see Peter getting anywhere close to the win he almost had in 2005. Wlad's had five years of building confidence while Peter's had more losses and rough rides.

 

Vlad by knockout. It's a shame that Povetkin refuses to fight Vlad. He is not ready for Vlad yet, but the money is fair.

 

The first fight was quite interesting (same show as Cotto vs Ricardo Torres) but seeing as Samuel Peters is awful now I'm not looking forward to it...

That said, at least we know that Peters has a punchers chance.

This is much a statement from sauerland. i read that he's described wlads contract offer as "A slave contract". Thats the same term that haye used to describe there contract offer. Seeing as sauerlands got options on haye, theres a lot more politics involved im sure

 

Completely different situation. This fight went to purse bid so it's impossible to have any options/rematch clauses/conditions in the contract. Povetkin was going to get $2m with no options but for some reason he's backed out.

 

Nigerian nightmare or whatever he wants to call himself better show some heart. Pointless fight.

It's an IBF rule that if a fight goes to purse bid then no options whatsoever can be in the contract. Purse bids happen when negotiations break down so there are no negotiations after a purse bid happens! Both parties sign a standard IBF contract. This is standard practice. Same rules for the WBC, WBO and WBA.

Recently Don King tried to put options in a contract he gave to Miguel Acosta when he won the purse bid for his fighter Moses' bout with Acosta. Acosta rightly wouldn't sign it as it was a purse bid and King had to remove the options from the contract.

I've looked for quotes where Povetkin, or anyone in his camp, said it was a slave contract...could you post the link?

You're right about the rules though, K2 bid 8 million at the purse bids compared to Sauerlands 4 million. Povetkin was going to get 2 million for it so hardly a slave contract. Sauerland just don't want him to get beat.

 

Just read the article. I'm not sure how you can describe a purse bid contract as a slave contract though. You can't put options of any kind in it.

The only thing I can think of is that all flights, travel, hotel and other expenses would come out of the $2m. That's not great from the promoter but it's something that a lot of promoters do.

Wlad's obligation was to pay Povetkin $2m...Povetkins was to turn up and fight. It's a pity he isn't going to keep his end of the bargain up. I'm not sure he'll get too much sympathy for calling $2m gross to challenge for your 1st title a slave contract.
