Per FNews, Don King Promotions has reconciled with Ricardo Mayorga after cockblocking his attempt to make some scratch in the mixed martial arts game earlier this year by claiming that DKP owned all rights to Mayorga in the context of any combat sport that remotely includes or resembles boxing (and just about bankrupting fledgling promotion Shine Fights in the process).

Heavy-handed haymaker jockey Mayorga, whose record dating back to December 2003 is 3-3 and who has been inactive in the sweet science since a knockout loss to Shane Mosley in 2008, will be challenging immediately for the WBA Super World Middleweight Title currently held by German pure boxer Felix Sturm (himself inactive over a year, since the 7th defense of his current reign in July 2009) on September 4th, 2010.

The venue per Boxrec will be the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.

disgraceful fight...another farce by the WBA

in the last 7 years..."7 years" he has 3 wins......
none of which is over a middleweight......

i guess they can make their own rules

I agree wth your sentiment in general. However, I think that in this case the WBA is just trying to cut Sturm a few breaks because of how long it took to settle the dispute with Universum.

If light-punching, glass-jawed Sturm sticks to his gameplan and just boxes and moves (or better: jabs and runs), he will win easily. Maybe even by late stoppage.

But if he tries to prove any point whatsoever and try to stop Mayorga early, or trade with him in order to bring some excitement, then I can see Mayorga KOing him. Sturm has tried this before, against Castillejo, who was just as old and shot as Mayorga - and who had a similar fighting style

All the irish lads were hoping lee might get an early shot but he isnt a big enough name. He was on the short list after Rubio and mayorga initiallly pulled out , but Lee will have to earn it. He will also be on ESPN 2 next friday trying to improve his profile.
