Miguel Cotto Could Make Vanes Martirosyan Title Defense?

I thought Martirosyan showed a lot of promise until the Ouma fight. Now, I'm pretty sure Cotto would tear Vanes up.

I felt the exact same way. I thought Top Rank was doing an excellent job bringing along a young Olympian. Lately, once the competition moved beyond no-hopers, he hasn't shown anything indicative of an elite fighter.

 

You could see this fight coming to tell the truth with both being with Top Rank and fighting at 154. Martirosyan fought on Cotto's last card in NYC, so I'd expect them to fight each other in NYC as well. Martiroysan will put up a fight but he won't beat Cotto, there's a class difference that will show. But Cotto has some mileage on him and Martiroysan is young and a full sized jr middleweight so it should be an ok fight.

I know Cotto said he only wants big fights from now on and this won't qualify. But its still a smart fight for Cotto. He gets to defend his title in a fight that he should win while becoming the go to guy for both Mayweather and Pacqauaio if they don't face each other next year or Margartio if he pulls off the upset over Pacquaio. I'd much prefer to see Cotto-Berto but I don't mind this fight, I felt Cotto needed a fight or two after the Pacquaio and Margarito fights to see what he has left.

 

I think a unification with Spinks would be his best bet. A decent name, winnable fight, and under Manny Steward, would prepare him for a fight with Mayweather should it happen.

Vanes a good fighter but I think he will be in over his head dealing with Cotto...I've watched his fights with Ouma and Mean Joe Green...And judging by those fights...He will get abused against Cotto...Maybe I could be wrong but I just dont see what Vanes does too get Cotto of his gameplan.

Vanes should get some more fights before he fight Cotto IMO.
