I can't remember George Chuvalo being dropped either?

    That's a testament to Muhammad Ali's talent.

Floyd may be better technically, so was Orlando Canizales and Ricardo Lopez.

Just getting this in perspective. For all of Floyd's technical superiority, he still couldn't carry Ali's jock.

She should be ashamed of herself comparing his father to Floyd.
Skillwise maybe Money could par, but to Ali's courage and achievement in this sport, I really don't think so.
It's not the damn clean slate record that matters in this sport but how you face and handle challenge to make the best of you as a fighter.
Poor Floyd couldn't even handle to think getting Parkinson's.

I also think women should be completely banned from boxing. The thought of two chicks beating each other up freaks me out and it's just wrong. :bart

Chuvalo had a great chin and by his own admission, had an underrated defense. He knew how to tuck his chin and roll with the punches when he could. I didn't understand your point.

The point with Ali and Floyd is that Floyd was so technically sound, specifically in defense since that is what we are discussing now, that Floyd was not dropped even as a "green" fighter. And Ali continued in his ways to fight with his hands-down and dodge punches pulling back so he never advanced in his ways during his peak years. It wasn't until post-exile he learned to cover up but even then, he doesn't compare to Floyd.

Women should learn to fight. Many ancient cultures, even today, allow their women to learn to fight and train because they need to protect the children, even the home-land, when the Males are away.

That said, I would rather watch two women get all greased up in baby-oil and wrestle in bikinis.

I appreciate that but what we're discussing is Floyd being technically superior to Muhammad Ali. Some may feel compelled to debate that, all I'm saying is this is not an exclusive club. There were many fighters, the majority of which who aren't considered as good or as great as Muhammad Ali, that also displayed superior technical prowess on a constant basis.

Look at the thread title. This was always going to rub up a lot of people the wrong way, specifically those who know what they are talking about.

Disagree. Floyd is better technically because he had better teachers.

Floyd had his Father, Sr, former Pro fighter, his uncle, Roger, former World Champion, and even his other Uncle {Jeff} to keep an eye on him. All from the moment he popped out of the oven.

Ali on the other hand, didn't have this luxury.

What is natural is the athletic ability for both. Of course that has to also be built up but not quite like learning the "art of boxing."

I disagree. The reason Muhammad Ali didn't refer to the textbooks was because he was simply naturally gifted. Floyd is also a wonderful natural talent, but he was taught most of the techniques that have brought him success, whereas I don't envision Angelo or Archie Moore taught Ali to keep his hands down by his sides, and avoid punches simply with head movement.

but isnt that WHAT MAKES floyd more technical..and clearly..u said he was 'taught'..and thats it right there..floyd was taught and ali simply wasnt and didnt HAVE to be..ali wasnt technical AT ALL u guys..when 90% of your shots are head shots u only have so much room to BE technical..ali seemed to let his combo's go without thought though..

whereas floyd picked his shots and is VERY elusive and with better and more accuracy..

infact i dont think Ali is more technically sound than floyd in ANY category including foot work...Floyd uses his feet more and didnt run NOT EVEN CLOSE from/around opponents like ali did..His footing is very strong and placed dead centre of the ring [no matter what pbf haters would tell u]and he uses his feet very well..he always keeps them apart and he tilts his body to the side and uses whatever leverage he can out of his feet...

aside from maybe a 90's jones i dont think theres anyone whos more of a technician that floyd period..[all due respects to whitaker]

I've not once claimed otherwise. You said he was more of a natural than Muhammad Ali, who in all likelihood trained himself during his prime years and wasn't taught a wide array of technical skills from his uncles and father who were professional fighters too.

Since when has Roy Jones Jr been a technician? He's in the same mold as a Muhammad Ali, relying on his physical attributes; his speed of hand and foot, his reflexes.
