Greenburg had no choice to set the record straight. His credibilty was at stake. He just got caught in the middle.

 

What do you mean Schaefer. As far as I know he has said nothing so far. Unless you have some quotes from him?

Greenburg and HBO is a big corporation that has business beyond boxing. They have the most to lose, yet they stuck with their story. They realize they need their credibility intact thru this.

 

Well of course. But to make this money, he needs both GBP and Arum. If he decides to lie and side only with Arum, he'll be doing his relationship with GBP and Mayweather more harm than good.

Unlike Schaefer (who is allowed to lie and must defend Mayweather), Greenburg has no choice but to be honest and remain impartial.

I am sure Greenburg and Haymon speak regularly. Just because there was dialogue doesn't mean that they were in the midst of heavy negotiations. It isn't that hard to understand.

Haymon - "60/40, no cutoff or we shouldn't even bother talking about it"
Greenburg - "I have Arum down to 50/50 14 days, which is what you accepted last time, I'll fax you the contract"
Haymon - Laughs
Arum - "We have imposed a deadline for Mayweather to accept the agreed upon terms"

End of story.

 

Obviously the above is a hypothetical scenario of what could have happened (and you're probably not far from the truth to be honest). But at least you, a Floyd fan, are willing to admit some form of negotiations did indeed take place. Now for Ellerbe to come out and say "no, nothing took place", surely you do find that abit odd? And that Team Mayweather need to start giving us more clear cut answers in an attempt to clear this mess up?

There was clearly some dialogue between Greenburg and Haymon but that doesn't mean that it was ever really considered by Floyd. Like I said, Floyd is probably cool with sitting and waiting for Pac/Arum to accept exactly what he wants and when he wants it because he feels he has the leverage. Ellerbe saying "no, nothing took place" could mean that there was nothing ever seriously discussed and considered, which is entirely possibly, and the whole deadline was a charade, which is likely.

If you insist on 60/40 and the other side won't budge off 50/50, how can negotiations move forward?
