interesting, I think pav would still have the edge becaus of activity, but if u would give wright a few warm up bouts he would be ready for him and he would win the fight
Back in the day , winky was the **** ! one of my fave fighters ever the winky who schooled tito would ruin pavlik , not sure about now though
well winky's legs arent what they used to be and his reflexes have started to diminish. kelly has shown problems making weight. so both guys will bring their own set of acquired handicaps. if kelly can make weight properly, then i think winky is in big trouble. winky's god given boxing ability will only take him so far if he can't move laterally and get out of kelly's way. in front of kelly is not a good place to be. winky may still be able to slip shots on kelly but if he can't slip AND move laterally to take advantage of it then he's really swimming against a strong current. a healthy pav would probably wear him down and stop him.
The Winky that fought P.W that night would knock this Pavlik . Re watch the fight as one sided as it was it was all hight and reach . If not for P.W natural gifts Winky would have Taken him out .
Weight is the only issue I see in this fight. Winky fought Hopkins at 170. At that weight, Pavlik won't be drained and just beats up an ever slowing Winky. Not sure if this fight could be made. Winky has a high opinion of what he should get paid for a fight.
The important thing here is that Winky does not believe he can beat Pavlik. If he did, he would have said yes to one of the 900 opportunities he had to fight Kelly.
Not necessarily. Winky has ****ed himself over against guys, I think he rightly believes he could beat because of his overestimating his monetary value and pricing himself out of fights, as I understand it.
No. Winky hasn't won a fight since 2006. I don't have faith in his ability to beat any of the best middleweights anymore.
The **** between Pavlik and Wright started way back in 2004. Winky was the boss at 154 and Pavlik could still get down to the weight. It continued all the way up to 2009. Pavlik was always willing, but Winky never was. Looking back I think Team Pavlik expected Winky to beat JT, and that is why Pavlik made his first NABF title defense against McKart. If you're looking for a tune-up in preperation to fight Winky, you couldn't find a better opponent than 2006 McKart.
