Weight divisions are done by weight, not height. The clue is in the name.

What has being a beginner has to do with chin? You either have good chin or you don't. If anything a beginner would have a better one cause he hasn't been hit as much.

i think we're talking about weight here, not height. i don't think anyone would say that tyson was undersized for a heavyweight...

I've never witnessed anything like that in the gym. But I've seen small (most likely trained guys) knock big guys (bouncers, etc) out from one clean punch. I guess it all depends sometimes on whether the small guy can throw a punch.

I think he means an accumulation of punches, if the small guy knows how to put his punches together, etc...well I'm guessing he does anyway...

Streetfights are different. Hangout with a boxer streetfighter or those pikey's. I know of a LW boxer who got into streetfights, just 1 left hook and their on the floor. Regardless of size. Its in the element of surprise.

    Obviously you havent boxed before.

You learn to take a punch. You dont walk into a gym knowing how to take a punch, the guys who do have learnt to do so in the street. You learn to manage how your brain and body reacts to it. Obviously once that learning curve is done then you realise the true toughness of the chin.

No guy who hasnt ever been hit before is gonna go in there and become Oliver McCall. Thats ridiculous.

I remember a jab bothering me, now I can walk through em. My bro use to get bothered by every shot in light sparring, now he would walk through bombs.

    Why?

Beginners are more likely to be hit by an accumulation of punches, and will more often walk straight into a big shot

That and the fact that their mind is not conditioned to get hit. There's a reason why when a LW moves up to WW, he spars WW and not LW's to deal with the speed, its to get used to the power. The power becomes less shocking as you taste it more, like with everything else. Your face gets tougher, you learn to brace yourself for the punch more, instinctively you move your head away from the punch, instintively make the right moves when your hurt, your brain also recuperates better.

Go into the training section, you will see threads of guys posting they got headache after sparring session. All the thread starters have 1 thing in common, they are newbies. I quit boxing for about a year, first day back of sparring, I had headache afterwards, and it was light sparring too.

Body is very adaptable, it dont just magically know how to take a punch, a lot of people dont understand this. It has to be conditioned to do that.

Over the years we've seen some monster punchers at the lighter weights. Guys like Little Red and Alexis Arguello could probably stop just about anybody under the right circumstances.

Not boxing and not ktfo but 169lbs vs 600lbs mma, I found it quite funny.

Here's something on youtube. MMA but the KO come's nonetheless, skip to the end. 145lb vs 295lb. Then again, dont think he would classify as a solid chin HW :)

It really depends on your definition of "big". For example, technically speaking, it's quite likely that Ricky Hatton currently weights over 200lbs, which would make him a heavyweight. But I doubt he'd be HARDER to knock out by Pacquiao now. In that case, you would literally be seeing a jr. welterweight knock out a heavyweight. There are probably a lot of cases like that, especially in the US, where people weight far above what their "boxing weight" would be that they would be KO'ed in one punch by someone much smaller but much more muscular and therefore much stronger.

If that counts as a small guy taking out a big guy, then yeah, definitely. I see stuff like that on the street pretty often. But if you're talking about two finely-conditioned pros going at it, and one is a heavyweight, then I doubt anyone below LHW could flat out knock him out, though you might see some stoppages akin to Pacquiao/De La Hoya.

That said, I did read a post here a couple of days ago about the hardest measured punch on the last Olympic Team being from a bantamweight. Not sure how true that is.

I've seen middleweights knock the **** out of heavyweights in my gym. I believe once someone gets to around 160 lbs, if they have a punch, they're capable of knocking out someone 200 + because they have a good combination of size, speed and power.

I'm sure guys like abraham could flatten an average heavyweight.
