Good fighter with a good resume. Katsidis was a good win, Freitas was a good win, Diaz, Lorcy and Sim were all decent wins. And that war with Marquez, showed what Juan Diaz is all about. If he could get rid of the puppyfat and add some extra to his punching power he could have been a great fighter, but that doesnt look like happening.

And i agree if he loses decisively this weekend he should call it a day, the bull has other prospects.

He's the guy Manny officially ducked, in my eyes. He was calling him out LONG long time ago.

Frietas, Julio Diaz, J.M Cotto (undefeated mind you), Katsisdis. Thats a respectable resume, not too mention that he held the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles at 135.

Is he a great/future HOFer?? No, but no one is claiming he is. He is/was a very good fighter, period.

Sure he is. I think one skilled fighter with no punching power is a hype job.

i wouldn't say that. he is a good fighter.

though he was hyped a bit when he was at lightweight with corrales and castillo. everybody was looking forward for this guy, everybody accepted his resume' at that time saying he is only 22 or something.

not a hype job, but once upon a time in his career , he got hyped. just did not live to expectations

He doesn't have a bad resume, but he doesn't have a great one either. He's fought a ton of titlists, but a lot of them were either past prime or weak titlists to begin with. I've maintained for a while now that much of his original hype was a mirage, but at this point, I think people are pretty solid on their assessments of him. I suspect he has a few more fights left, but he'll probably retire very young. He's heading to law school at some point, and his style doesn't exactly lend itself to a long career. Still, he faced a pretty decent slate of opponents. This will be his 8th fight in a row against a former, present or future titlist.

Juan is a classic over acheiver in this sport. He's blue collar and all work and determination. He's by far done better than I expected and would NEVER call him "HYPE". All the hype he got.....he earned. Love watching the kid fight with so much heart and determination. He's a good all around fighter who is non stop. And if he had real power he'd be even better. But considering what he has and what he's accomplished....I'd say he's the real deal.

    :good Very true.

Hence, no, Diaz is not a hype job. Is he an all-time great? Hardly, but one needn't achieve AG or HOF status in order to avoid the dreaded "hypejob" moniker.

If the Diaz fights Katsidis again, however, I would place my money on Katsidis.

And? Paulie is a skilled fighter, his last performance notwithstanding.
