This would be awesome, instead of that gay round robin at 140lbs how about a super six ripoff. Timothy Bradley,Devon Alexander,Amir Khan, Marcos Maidana, Juan Manuel Marquez(provided he's not shot after this weekend), and Zab Judah. The backup being Victor Oritz maybe . It has all the elements(the old heads with the young guns) in what promises to be the best fights of the 2010s. What do you guys think? Thoughts? Comments?
All those are active in the million dollar business, to be fair only Arthur Abraham was actively in the million dollar business out of the super six entrants. A 140lbs tournament would be far too expensive, although I am sure HBO have been trying desperately to put on a semi finals bracket with Alexander,Bradley,Khan and Maidana.
Not really that expensive, if you market it well kinda like 24/7 or fight camp 360 and charge a reasonable amount 20 bucks for the ppv-they could put up any kind of undercards they want and I think they would do very well. Nobody wants to take a risk in this business.
Or you could do this charge max amount for ppv 50/60 bucks and put every single fight of stage one on the same night-you could do this as all the fighters live in the U.S. or mexico I believe. maidana lives in the u.s. now right and it would be hailed as the greatest event of all time. and the best thing is you could get it done in 2 years tops
Apart from the 4 man tournament (semi finals) that were talked about before, I don't think anything like the super 6 should be set up. For starters, I can't see guys like Judah and Marquez wanting to agree to 3 more tough fights when another defeat for either guy will likely be their end (like Jermain Taylor). Secondly, it's been hard enough to get any of these guys to fight each other for whatever reasons so there's almost no chance of them signing up to fight each other. Personally I consider Tim Bradley the number 1 guy and champion in the division (since Pacquiao beat Hatton and moved up), therefore I'd just like to see Bradley in with one of the other top contenders (ie Alexander, Khan or Maidana) and then we can take things from there.
I agree those top 4 contenders would make an excellent fight but throwing in those extra 2 make it even more exciting, yes I know it will never happen because they are all worried about losing but as junior middleweights they aren't going to make as much money as the welters or heavies so why not try something (almost) new to make the sport exciting again
there has been a few fireside chats about hbo putting on a 4 man round robin at 140 lbs with bradley, alexander, khan, maidana
