Sweet Pea certainly could and probably should find himself ranked above FMJ and Pac, at least right now. Jones could be up there, but I figured this writer is focusing on the 135-147 range of fighters. I think Chavez has a case for being more remembered/famous than FMJ and Pac, but I don't think legacy-wise he'll rank above either.

Mayweather is better than Julio Cesar Chavez.

Pacquiao is better than Chavez and Whitaker.

JCC is a beast.. straight up!! No one can deny that. But Pernell beat him and was absolutely robbed when they called it a draw!!

Oscar's wins over the shell of Chavez meant little.

    :good

Agreed. I also agree on Chavez being there he dominated for years
around that time. Whitaker got Chavez no question about it but
every time Chavez fought it was a big event. I would put Oscar,Floyd & Pac ahead of Whitaker as well in that perspective. :good

I've tried to appreciate Chavez. I just don't get it. He fought dozens of Mexico City cab drivers and should have lost to Whitaker, and probably even Taylor. I'm not even flaming, just after watching videos, I don't see him in the same league as the other fighters in this thread.

Did you see him fight live, not in person but during his era, or just tapes? Cause it is hard to understand the magnitude of the fights without knowing the current rankings of the time. Put it this way, 20 years from now, if mayweather doesn't fight pacquia, a lot of people will say he fought bums compared to other all time greats.

Like who the hell did Hatton, Corrales, Chicanito or Gatti beat? Those all seem like a great resume, but later people won't remember much about these fighters.

Funny how some people don't give Chavez credit, but love Whitaker and point to the Chavez fight as the highlight of his career.

Good points. No, I've only seen tv re-broadcasts and youtube fights. Not saying he wasn't very significant, and as I said, I wasn't intending to flame, I just didn't see the level of greatness in Chavez that I see in the other fighters in this thread. But, again, I never saw him in the moment, only after.
