What's next for Juan Manuel Marquez?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Indio-Bandido, Aug 1, 2010.

  1. As impressive as his win was tonight against Diaz, it was clear that Marquez had run out of steam in the championship rounds. Considering his tremendous heart, he's not the type of fighter who will age overnight. I think he has one good fight left after which he should call it a day. He gives it his all every time he steps in the ring. Manny Pacquiao should give him one last shot. Marquez deserves it. A lot of fight fans would love to see it and it would be a great last fight. The outcome wouldn't even matter that much. If he loses against Pacquiao again, even if it's by knockout, his fans could take comfort in the fact that he lost to an all time great. Plus, he'll always have those two very close fights against him on his record.

JMM vs Michael Katsidis sounds good to me.

This would be a "does the old man still have it" fight.

Maybe somebody like Katsidis to defend his 135 pound belts. I don't think he should move up for a 4th division title...140 is too much for him.

I don't think JMM lost that much at all, he just boxed at his pace because he was allowed to. People seem to think that because of the Pacquiao and Barrera fights and the first Diaz fight that he's some kind of brawler. Tonight, he knew he had the fight won, so he chilled in the last two rounds. He consistently pressed the advantage when he had it without losing his form. I think if pressed in the last rounds he would have shown great stamina. He answered every time Diaz momentarily assaulted. I'd like to see him fight Katsidis, and then maybe try a shot at a fourth title but I have my doubts about a Khan match-up. The weight for either Pac or Khan is just too troublesome and I'd rather have JMM go out better. Katsidis, Morales, Hatton wouldn't be a bad way to end.

  6. Katsidis isn't on his level.

I think it should be Katsidis or Khan. I wouldn't mind seeing Pac-Marquez again but I don't think he can match Pac at the higher weights.

JMM vs Bradley would be my choice but obviously Kahn and Katsidis are easier to make.

In all honesty, I think Marquez is the only lightweight in the world who would have beat Diaz tonight. JMM has a lot left in the tank, and he can do what the hell ever he wants at 135.

I do not think he should move up to 140, nor do I think Pac can be effective below 140 these days.

**** the Katsidis fight. This great legend dont have no time for bull**** small time bums like Katsidis. SO what if he beats Kat, what's that gonna do for his legacy? nothing. IT's either PAcman trilogy, BRadley, or even Khan's acceptable.

I wouldn't mind seeing him face Katsidis or Soto. Just stay at 135 ffs.

    Exactly!

Fighting Katsidis is waisting the last of what Marquez has left.

I believe Marquez has one or two great fights in him, and he'd be waisting it against someone way under his level.

Imo if a title at 140 lbs is in team Marquez plans, he should do that next against either Khan or Bradley.
Marquez still is fully capable against either of them, but he needs to do that late this year or early next.

Its just too bad for Marquez Hatton stayed retired. That would have been a money fight Marquez deserved to have.

The great Juan Manuel Marquez is at the latter end of a tremendous career. Whoever he fights, we'd be wise to just enjoy him while we still have him active and fighting great.:bbb
