Agreed on all points. I was in love with him even without the KO. A guy with that size and agility and aggression is going to be a tough son of a *****, with or without power. And I also liked Jacobs' response. He seems like a good kid and I hope recovers mentally and keeps moving forward. He's definitely a talented fighter.
Jacobs is not the man of the middle div.We need to see this kid with the elite, who has genuine skillz, speed and power. This kid fought an overrated and green american prospect. And there were moments there where pirog showed weakness and vulnerability where an experience elite can take advantage of and make him pay (expose him if you will). But Russia has strong warriors.Tszyu being one etc this kid could be another one.
Jacobs fought like an idiot. He was landing his over hand right almost at will, and yet, he kept switching to southpaw. And the way Jacobs kept backing up to the ropes even though he got his ass kicked on the ropes was so Taylor-esque it was almost frightening. In addition, the right side of Pirog's face was starting to swell and bust up after one round, but Jacobs acted like he barely knew how to spell left hook. This fight told us Pirog is a good prospect, and we already knew that.
I knew Pirog would win. Far superior boxer, although he's not a hypejob "name" like Jacobs. I forgot to put money on this fight. Oh well. atschatsch
It appears to me Jacobs does not have what it takes to make it in the higher grades or elite level. He is young tho so you never know he can rebound from this lost.I think the big dawgs eats him up at this point of his career. He simply has a long way to go.It would be interesting what this Pirog can do at the higher level. :bbb
Personally, I think Pirog is getting way more hype tonight than the win over Jacobs deserves. I do not think he is ready for a top guy. The top guys in the division all have in the neighborhood of 40 fights, some of those fights against pretty good opposition. Pirog would get slaughterd by a top fighter with that kind of experience. Pirog/Lemiex is the fight to make. Let these prospects and young contenders learn and earn their way to the top. It will be interesting to see how long it takes the WBO to appoint a mandatory, who they appoint, and how much time they give Pirog.
I was already wary of Pirog when he was mentioned here on ESB many months ago as a potential opponent for KP, just watched some of his highlights, he is good for the division and good for boxing in general. Good luck to him in the future, him vs Martinez would quite a fight....
What alot of people fail to understand, is that it is much tougher on the European scene. Pirog had, had fewer fights than Jacobs, but mixed in a much tougher circuit with tougher opposition. This here is really a bit of proof, look at the respective names on there records on who they had to fight to get to this title shot. Jacobs wouldnt have beaten any of the guys from the European scene at this time like Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam Sebastian Zbik Gennady Golovkin Grzegorz Proska Its just Pirog got to him first. Jacobs can rebuild his career but would benefit going over to Europe for some tough sparring and training
