Between the Super 6, the Marquez-Juanma fight, and Fight Camp 360, Showtime is blowing HBO's summer/fall lineup out of the water. The only fight HBO has signed that is on the same level is the Dawson-Pascal clash, and even that is a 1-off fight with no undercard (why not televise the red-hot Lemieux?). HBO only has itself to blame. Guys like Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, Miguel Cotto, and Andre Berto - all mainstays on the network - are sitting around without a fight while they should obviously be fighting each other. FORCE THE ISSUE. Nobody is interested in seeing Berto or Williams be handed over-matched opponents anymore, and we all want to see Cotto and Martinez fight the best. The only really memorable fight HBO has aired all year was Cotto-Foreman, and much of that fight will only be remembered for towel-gate. Meanwhile Showtime is about to air a spectacular final round of the Super 6, which includes a pair of toss-up fights. HBO hasn't had a major toss-up fight since maybe the Pavlik-Martinez matchup.
HBO also has the Gamboa fight for september, and maybe James kirkland will fight before the year ends when he gets out in october. But overall yes i agree showtime has a nice lineup.:happy
Hbo is still the king..and will aways be.... showtime is second......... as soon as showtime invests money and gets a star on their hands...hbo snatches them up. showtime takes the broken down and forgotten/abused fighters from hbo. I expect to see Joshua Clottey on there soon.
HBO has this coming its riding GBP dick far too long, in the mean time nelgecting alot of promisiing bouts out there. The Super 6 was what boxing needed for awhile, and they have had alot of good bouts. HBO is about the names not necessarily the bouts, or sport. Where Showtime, may not be as big (in terms of popularity in names) but focuses on substance and has had some phenomenal bouts. :good
HBO was saving a good amount of their yearly budget for the Pac/Mayweather fight. Since that isnt going happen now I expect HBO to make a big push for some good fights to close out the year. Im expecting: Martinez/Williams Khan/Marquez Haye/Adamek or Hopkins Donaire/Montiel Berto/Cotto
Yeah but it's a fight everyone knows Gamboa will win easily. HBO should have said that Caballero is the only opponent they'd accept for a Gamboa fight.
Interesting that last night, Lampley's interview with Marquez ended with a question about the Rafael Marquez/Juan Manuel Lopez fight, basically promoting their rival Showtime
Horse****:huh HBO is still # 1 in quality and productivity.:deal Showtime has indeed gotten better since the trashy 1990s, but they beat-off way too hard on their fight schedule and only do a show worth a **** every 3 months or so...... bbb:hey MR.BILL:hat
HBO need to be more proactive a lot of their guys are sitting on the shelf without a fight. How do you expect to build a following if a fighter is out once or at best twice a year.
