"Jimmy Young: A Personal Recollection" By Frank Lotierzo

    A very nice article of Frank Lotierzo, who worked out with and knew Jimmy Young. He speaks about his career, his impressions of Young, his fights with Norton and Cooney. Also there is a nice anecdote about Cobb.

    In one particular part he is asked how punched hardest, and he ranked them:
    1. Shavers
    2. Foreman
    3. Lyle
    4. Norton

    Which sounds like very sound judgement to me, based on records and film i would make exactly the same list. It is noteworthy that he doesn't suffer from "Fighter A, who knocked me silly, didn't punch as hard as fighter B, whom i beat", or Lyle would've been #1 and Shavers #4.

    This is a great story. As Jimmy was one of my favorite fighters, It was neat reading about the man himself and not just his bouts. He fought all the greats of his time and always gave a good account of himself. A little more luck and he could have been Heavyweight champ of the world.

    Yes, good call. He seemed a great guy did Jimmy, refreshingly honest. Nearly champ too, but didn't have a chance really. Why? Well, if you watch Round 1 of the Ali fight you'll see Ali throw just ONE punch, which misses...yet two of the judges scored the round even. :lol:

    Jimmy Young was my favorite heavyweight (without double-checking records)around the time he shutout Ron Lyle,sent George Foreman into retirement-and I thought won every round against Ali.The judges used Young's sticking his head through the ropes as an excuse to rob him.I'm no Norton fan-but the fight showed I really hate to admit,because I loved watching Young,but he just didn't have that extra gear which allowed Norton to be able to huff and puff and outhustle Young(I thought).
