If you check my training log you will see that I just finished cycling. First time I did it. Still, most of the cyclers I know are the fittest people I know. Any of you get the bike out to replace a slow jog? Not that everyone does slow jogs. RDJ has it correct I believe. But for those of you who do, I just wondered.
I ride bmx as a kind of side hobby to boxing, that seems to keep my legs in shape and stuff..Usually ride about 10-20 mile on weekend days when we're out and about..I certainly think it helps keep a good fitness base to build on..
I do both as the bike is my only means of transport, plus it keeps me active and the calories burning. Important because I like eating, a lot. I do feel it helps me improve my overall fitness. I don't really do slow runs, more roadwork sessions into which I incorporate many things. Sideways and backwards movement, some sprints at the end, shadowboxing and some callisthenics at a local soccer field, etc. etc.
I'm about a month into using cycling in my training and my legs are feeling stronger in the later part of my training.
I run out at the lake. after my run I bike a couple miles right after and during this time of year I finish it off with a swim.
One of the most pleasing workouts possible. I used to a similar thing at a nearby lake, different order though (cycle, run, swim, cycle).
Don't do it for training, just transportation and fun. Strong legs with lots of endurance always helps in boxing.
I use the stationary bikes at the gym on a tough level for about 10 minutes as well as a 4 miles run a day. I really ****ing hate cycling though.
If I'm on a bike its interval training. 2 mins good pace 1 min flat out. Its getting pretty easy I need to up the flat out part a bit.
