I guess the people that had Pirog "Clearly" winning the fight must have thought Rocky Juarez beat Linares as well.

  2. I thought Jacobs was winning the fight despite fighting going backwards. He was landing some pretty good shots. Pirog was too sloppy in my opinion. He sort of just plodded forward. Jacobs was easy prey. He looked unsure of himself and uneasy.

I gave Pirog the first two, Jacobs the 2nd two.

Given how many possibilities there were for scoring since the first and fourth were reasonably close rounds, that all 3 judges had Pirog down 3-1 tells me he probably would've gotten screwed on the cards had it went the distance.

That shouldn't surprise anybody considering it was an unknown foreign fighter against one of GBP's prized prospects. I think Pirog probably knew he needed a knockout to win; the guy's no idiot.

I had Jacobs up 3-1 at the time of the stoppage.

Exactly that. I Had Jacobs 39-37, giving Pirog round 2.

you're failing to see the difference between scoring rounds and what might be called the overall "tenor" of the fight. Jacobs was busier, landing more, and therefore winning rounds. But Pirog "looked" strong. He seemed to be in a better position. But that is irrelevant. Rounds aren't scored on the basis of "overall tenor", they're scored mechanically in terms of whose doing more each round.

Please see Jermain Taylor-Bernard Hopkins I for another example of the difference between round scoring and who "seems to be winning overall".

It astounds me how anyone can give Jacobs the 4th round ..... do people really score purely based on ineffective work rate ?

Pirog clearly won it on ring generalship, clean punching , effective aggression and defense.
The fight link has been posted ... watch the 4th again and look closely and tell me Jacobs really won that round ....

I had it 3-1 for Pirog. 2nd was clearly Pirog, 3rd clearly Jacobs, 1st and 4th arguable. I don't think 3-1 Jacobs is an outrage, even if that's not what I saw.

I thought Pirog won the 1st on effective punching. I thought the 4th was even on punching, but Pirog was controlling the fight, and showed better defense.

I don't think he would have gotten robbed, because I don't think the next 8 rounds would have been anything like as close. Look at how the 5th went, even w/o the TKO.

Jacobs out landed pirog every round except maybe the 2nd.

By the time of the knockout Jacobs had outlanded him almost 2 to 1.

But Pirog was pressing and landing harder shots, so how ever you want to score it.

You could argue either side. I definetly wouldn't calll Jacobs winning a robbery.

Round one - Pirog (Jacobs if you score punches to the glove)
Round two - Pirog (beat Jacobs up)
Round three - Jacobs (Pirog took to long to get his shots off)
Round 4 - Jacobs (Pirog took to long to get his shots off)
Round 5 - Pirog (was winning the round up until the stoppage)

I agree with you here. He needs to increase his punch output to give more reason for the judges to give him the round.
