Should Mosley and Hatton be stripped of their nicknames?

    I know that Mosley moved up to face DLH, but I've wondered how he would have done if he had spent time at 140. I think if he had continued his 135 success there, he'd have boosted his legacy greatly.

    You are right there, Mosley and Hatton had a mostly positive impact on boxing as a whole and they should be commended for that. At the same time, I just don't think they'll ever be mentioned or thought of in the same league as their nickname-sharers.

    Id be much more worried about "The new Sugar" Ray Robinson than Sugar Shane Mosely.
    Also the chosen one Ronald Hearns. Thats Harry Potters nickname man

    That's very true as well. One way I've heard it explained is Robinson being Sugar, Leonard being Sweet 'N Low, and Mosley being Splenda...if that makes sense.

    I hadn't heard about Leonard saying Mosley deserved to be a Sugar, very interesting.

    :goodNo, it makes perfect sense. After the De La Hoya/Mosley 1 fight SRL was impressed and said Mosley deserved to be a Sugar. Can't find an article on it though I'm still looking...

    They are nicknames, that were probably given to them by someone else, so wtf? They've both had legitimate careers although i don't think was anything special.

    Mosley even at lightweight never was as sweet a fighter to have the nickname Sugar. Lightning or Flash would have been more appropriate. Not too concerned with Ricky having the Hitman tag. Although way below Hearns talent wise, he had a style at 140 which did the 'Hitman' moniker justice.

    Hattons nickname isn't because of Hearns. In some interview ages ago he was called a little hitman because he was unloading on a heavy bag when he was a kid. How can you strip a nickname? That could be the most absurd thing I have ever read.

    I actually don't think Mosley was really any better at 135 than his early days at 147. He was just fighting smaller, lesser opposition but Mosley looked awesome in his days at WW (other than the Rivera bout) up until the Forrest fight. Against Wise, DLH 1, Diaz, Taylor, and Stone, Mosley looked really good, and said he was more comfortable as well since he was a huge LW and must've been struggling to make the weight. De La Hoya was by leaps and bounds the best fighter Mosley had faced up to that point and Mosley looked sensational in that fight.
