Cheers Joe, i can sort of see both sides of the argument there........Nasty punch but pretty instinctive for me.
I'll say again, no worse that what amir khan did to kristjansen. Certainly a dq though. Double standards...
You're right about Khan's fight, I remember thinking at the time that he was fairly lucky to get away with it. Haye has done it a few times too. Bika took that split second to wind the right hand up which makes it look so much worse. Either way, hitting a guy who's completely prone like that should get you thrown out and suspended.
It's only a DQ as he was beaten by Joe Calzaghe. If he'd been a Froch victim then we'd all be on Cortez's case here. The fight should be a NC. It's hard to tell he was even taking a knee even on a video replay, what chance did Bika have? Some might even suggest it looks like Sakio was stitched up proper by a choreographed routine by Cortez, the IBF and Mendy. The IBF always did hate Calzaghe.
That makes no sense whatsoever! It's a clear DQ..I like Bika but he stopped, checked and pulled his arm back to deliver the uppercut. Clear DQ. He knew what he was doing as Mendy was two feet below him! A boxer know's when someone is down, you're so used to looking as a certain level that you just know. Bika lost his rag and was rightly DQ'd.
Well, at the other side of it, look at Jacobs in the 2nd round against Pirog. His head was even lower but he was an ok target
I feel bad for Bika. This could've been his big break. I feel he's the best person out there to give Bute a fight while the rest of the division are pre-occupied, but no one will touch him now. I know Bika has a screw loose, but there's no way he did that out of frustration. He was well on his way to a 1st round victory.
True..but Jacobs was square to Pirog, popped up pretty quickly and I think it was easier to see that he wasn't down. Bika was looking straight down at Mendy and I think it's pretty blatant. Not much worse than what Khan has done before though...or Haye against Fragomeni.
Mendy just looks like he is bending over from the first angle in that video. Bika paused, saw it was ok to hit him, then went for it. A shame he saw it wrong.
from the footage from behind mendy it looked like he was sitting on the bottom rope. i think bika thought cortez didnt stop him so he was still up. should of judged it better. another example of joe cortez fierce officiating [yt]EfmFGQfFIoI[/yt]
I feel sorry for Mendy, not Bika. Mendy is the one who was knocked cold by an illegal punch. I like Bika and was rooting for him but you can't deny that he's a dirty b&stard in the ring. He took it a step too far and was rightly DQ'd.
Exactly. And if the other angles were in normal time you'd probably think the same. The pause in Bika's punch looks so dramatic slowed down on the replays, in real time you couldn't even see it.
what was bika's reaction like when he heard he was DQ cause on that video it looked like he didnt know what was happening.
