The fact that there are many unanswered questions about Pirog is the reason I do not understand the hype.
I don't get understand it either, he beats some unproven fighter and now he's the next big thing :nut
Well, who can blame the fans? This division was ruled by a crabby Hopkins in a mostly boring reign, followed by the unsatisfactory Taylor, followed by Pavlik, who got everyone excited only to ultimately fall off, and now is topped by a guy in his mid-30s more identified with the 154-pound division. Middleweights used to be glamorous, and a new name is fun to follow. I'd rather read thousands more Pirog threads than any more ****ing Mayweather/Pacquiao threads....
Is it me or was round 3 missing from the videos? Anyways I thought Jacobs won the first round. Very much your typical fell out round. I think Jacobs did a little bit more than Pirog. Round 2 clearly went to Pirog. He landed better punches and had better defense. Round 3. ? did not see it so I can't score it. Round 4. I scored it for Jacobs. He seemed to be more in control than Pirog during that round. So I had Jacobs up 2 rounds to 1. With one round the third not scored. I think the fifth round is to early for me to say who would have won had the fight gone the distance.
Before the fight Jacobs supposed superior athleticism and speed were going to be the decided edge. I don't understand how anyone can say that Jacobs is more athletic that Pirog. Pirogs style involves far more athleticism, reflexes and agility, than Jacobs. Also there didn't seem to be a noticable difference in their handspeed imo.
I mentioned this in another thread but Pirog is usually a slow starter. Vs Jantuah he averaged 95 ppr and Melis 101 ppr. Over the long haul i very much doubt that he would have been outworked. What you seemed to say was Jacobs faster and busier hands means hes more athletic? I don't agree that that equates to more athleticism, he's a rather orthodox operater and Pirog's all around style displays far more. I still stand by what i said i think if anyone is more athletic it's Pirog and there was no great discrepancy in handspeed imo.
I still think that Jacobs is quicker with better reflexes. At any rate, as I see it, Pirog's defence isn't based on reflexes, it's anticipating (if that expression makes sense). He's not waiting for the other guys move to evade or block or whathaveyou. His defence is already in his offense. And so he stays relatively safe even when up close. That's a pretty good way to beat a faster fighter if you can't rely on your reflexes. He did show good counter punching at times though and he uses feignts all the time but I still don't think he is very quick. He walked to the ring to Paranoid! = My favourite boxer!
jacobs has never seen anything like Pirog.Pirog pressure was too much.He closes the distance real quick made it un-comfortable for Jacobs.I think a fighter like Jacobs is used to a certain style and tempo. That awkwardness and pressure. That was all weird for him.Pirog is not conventional fighter.jacobs is used to guys to stand there and he does all tha razzle dazzle.Pirog is different he is awkward opponent which put JAKE out of his comfort zone.
