Who's More Intimidating? Monzon or Duran?

Duran had mediocre guys at lightweight to intimidate. He sure didn't intimidate Hearns or Benitez or Hagler. He did Ray, but Ray turned the rematch around.

 

No one will convince me that he didnt intimidate Hagler. With Leonard he psyched him out into but not sure if he scared him, Ray certainly didnt fight scared. He definitely didnt intimidate Hearns or Benitez.

 

carlos monzon was a brilliant boxer but roberto duran was a pug from panama city. he fought in the golden era of boxing vs guys like leanord, hearns and haggler. duran for sure

But I could see someone choosing Monzon.

 

Pretty sure I'd worry more about a guy that was a full fledged murderer and man walking around with bullets in him then someone that looked and acted like a psycho but wasn't actually one. :-(

 

Duran easily in his prime days at 135 up until No Mas. After No Mas the aura was lost. Before then tho, he was a pretty mean mofo. He was far more aggressive than Monzon and probably hit harder P4P, especially with both wings taken into account. Monzon was more patient and methodical.

In reality the boxing ring allowed Monzon to calm and channel his inner rage where Duran was much more intense IMO.

 

Probably Duran has it somewhat more than Monzon, but I wouldn't be the type to approach either one to find out.

Duran by far. I dont get this myth of Monzon being some stone cold killer badass. He didnt fight like that and didnt act like that to his opponents for the most part. He was an ******* to his women but he actually had really good relationships with Valdez, Griffith, Bouttier, and Briscoe to name a few.

 

Duran in the ring, Monzon out of the ring for his unpredictability. As far as I know Duran never got into too much trouble out of the ring, he kept his fights inside it.

Assholes aren't intimidating though, that's not the point. Monzon seemed completely unshakable, in control of every thing, and would slowly pick you apart and break you. There wasn't any real urgency with him because he knew he was going to beat you, and you knew it too. I'd rather take on the snarling guy.

 

I've gotta go Monzon. Pure killer. His moxie was unreal.
