i'm one of the biggest pav riders on here and when they finally figure out what they are doing i'll be on board 100% even if the ship goes down. but there is some stuff out there that makes me nervous about his future. Consider what's going on around Kelly.... 1. Bob Arum: doesnt seem too worried about Kelly and seems to have his plate full w/ pac, cotto, etc. 2. Cameron Dunkin: Kelly's manager...is being quoted as being pissed as all hell that Bob Arum/Top Rank arent doing **** for Kelly. "they have nothing for us." He's even reported to have tried to get Kelly out of his contract w/ Top Rank he's so pissed. 3. Mike Pavlik: now is opining that Kelly could use new tutelage... 4. Jack Loew: cares a lot about Kelly and is probably seeing this and is now trying to call anyone out from lmw angulo to lhw dawson... and in the middle of all this is a good kid and a good fighter w/o a fight or a weight class for that matter. he's 28 years old and has been the mw champ. i'd hate to see a perfect storm form around him derail what ever else could have been in his career but it looks like that could happen w/o some decisive action. set a course and give it your best shot. no apprehension. no half measures. indecision is worse than wrong decision. smw, lhw...no its jcc at mw then its back to anyone from angulo to dawson now its pirog in the fall... get your mind right and your heart in it and give'em hell Kelly bbb
Dawson? No, no, no, and no. Maybe Angulo but I don't think they possibly could fight with the weight difference. I really do hope Kelly regains his confidence but fighting guys like Dawson & Bute are just too risky. He can't make 160 anymore and @ 168 the S6 tournament is going on. He should consider 170 but even if he does or doesn't I just hope he fights soon because inactivity hurts many fighters. Glad you're sticking by your guy you're a true fan:good.
i'm not a huge fan of jumping right into a dawson fight. now...there is a bit of truth to what jack loew is saying in that kelly is a world champion fighter and at this stage he doesnt need a tune up. but if dawson truly is what is going to happen...and i'm not saying it should...maybe a live fighter to ease his way into a division 15lbs over where he was at previously should be in order. my money will stay right in my pocket if kelly and dawson fight next...b/c i won't bet against kelly
Kelly is a nice guy and a tough guy and because of that that is his downfall. Mike Pavlik would be doing the best thing Pavlik can do in removing Loew, but I don't know if it might be alittle to late. I hope not. If it is Mike Pavlik doing the training, it wouldn't of have made the difference. Pavlik needs a world renowned trainer for a world renowned fighter. Just like cheese tits Arreola, Pavlik is a great talent that got stuck in the same gear unless these fighters get the best trainers. Pavlik and Arreola frustrate the hell out of me as did Chavez, Jr., but at least he is in the best shape of his life thanks to Coach Roach. If fighters don't have the desire to get better they don't deserve to win.
I don't think there's a chance they fight Dawson. I think Boo was right when he said Loew was simply using a Arum trick by calling out: Angulo, Dawson, and Cloud...guys who have recently fought or will fight very soon...to simply try to generate buzz(Angulo has a recent impressive 1rst rd KO, maybe Dawson and Cloud impress as well). I don't think they have any intention of fighting Dawson. Angulo's a possibilty...he's had trouble making weight in the past and Pav's camp seems to think he can still fight at 160(although I don't know what to make of that).
if jack loew really cares about pavlik he should know pavlik needs more than he can offer and seek help from better/more experienced coaches than himself. thats what adam booth does, adam booth is david hayes best friend but he knows when to call for help, adam booths taken haye to gyms all around america to pick up tips from great coaches.
Bring a Mayweather to teach him some defense. Jeff seems like he's not doing much these days. They need to start from the bottom with him and throw him in with some bums and work on his flaws and confidence.
i like to look at things from the inside out if at all possible...sometimes all you got is the word of the promoter. but in this case we have those closest to kelly seeming to get frustrated and voicing it... jack loew is calling out everyone and cameron dunkin is so mad he's tried getting kelly out of his contract. these guys are very close to kelly. arum has him under contract but also seems to have him on the back burner.
I understand you man lol. I'm probably the biggest Sugar Shane fan on here and just couldn't put vcash against him even though I'm a fan of Mayweather too maybe because Shane is my fav fighter. I'm a fan of Bute and Dawson too so........ All jokes aside much respect to you I hope Kelly can recover too. Me either but thinking there's still a chance worries me. Pavlik needs to not fight at 160 anymore he'll kill himself trying. The least he should be fighting at is light heavyweight in my opinion. It's possible Loew is trying to gain buzz though.
then possibly a tarver fight on a serious note...you can't go wrong w/ mackie if you want to get in shape.
If KP changed trainers I would hope for Richardson. Nazim once gave the perfect answer to the question, "What if you were training Kelly Pavlik?" Nazim said, "I wouldn't change much. I'd work on tightening up his defense and cleaning up his foot work, but would not tinker with his style." That not a direct quote, but it's damn close. Who ever works with Kelly, whether it's Jack Leow, or anybody else, needs to figure out what division he belongs in, and then get him back to being the highly effective stalker he used to be. Take KP at his best, and then clean up the foot work and tighten up the defense, and you've got one helluva fighter.
