I remember, it was in 2000. And the guy that took the fight on very short notice was Chris Byrd. That worked out pretty well for him.
Im ok with the guy coming back despite his age and inactivty as long as he fights low tier guys and doest fight some one like Klit or Haye he can beat journeyman like Billy Zumbrun and George Linenburger and Julius Long
He is one of my all time faves. I am amazed that he is doing this I wonder if he is broke. I'm with the others who say its ok as long as he fights lower level competition or other seniors.
I just love how anyone thinks these long faded Champs can come back and take a belt. "With today's Heavyweights, it's possible that (insert beyond shot 90's champion) can take a belt."
Yes, if the division were as bad as some seem to take great joy in saying, over and over, Toney, Holy, Bowe, Golota, Mercer.............at least ONE of them would have a title. On and on.............Axel Shultz tried it............Botha, too.........all came up empty........... Only one was Toney ( and this was when he was still in his 30s) , and his title win was due to steriod use, so mark of that one............... That leaves NONE of the older champions/greats of the past decade being able to win a title. NONE>.. Bottom line, none of these older guys can compete at the world level.........so I guess merely *picking up a quick title* is apparently not as easy as most seem to think. SO maybe the current upper tier heavies are not quite as bad as some love to say, over and over again. That FACT being said,......................I am interested in seeing Razor fight someone doable, though. As has been said, if merely for the nostalgia of his vicious uppercut power. :good
Let's see the Smash detonate on Haye's chin. Would be a stellar KO and Razor would finally get a title. Perfect.
Promoters have fantastic memories and sure don't like being taken to the cleaners by a guy more than once. Rival promoters follow suit and won't touch guys and it's pretty much career leprosy. Nobody liked the way he pulled out of the Vitali fight & that kind of thing is a career killer. That just leaves independants for any type of money and that translates to a Shannon Briggs type guy as his best payday. And the HBO and Showtime days of throwing money all over the place are gone and what does that really leave as far as paydays go?
Throw him in with the other Canadian waana be-Kirk "Blubber" Johnson with the loser having to retire-again.
Sad really. The guy can crack and his fight with Tommy was awesome while it lasted. These old timers should really hang them up.
Razor was one of my favorites, If he can still land that left hook, then I say go for it. I wish him luck.
