Okay, so the first big fight between the new generation is over, Dmitry Pirog knocked out Danny Jacobs via a perfect overhand right in the 5th round.

The next showdown is between Matthew Macklin and Darren Barker on September 18, but Golovkin fights for the interim WBA belt next Saturday plus Pavlik-Pirog and Lemieux vs. a top10 guy are being discussed. The MW division is about to become one of the hottest places in boxing.

I can't wait to see Kirkland get back in the mix. If he gets back to where he left off, he will be a force.

Golovkin could very likley be fighting N'jikam after he grabs that belt too. That's a huge matchup.

Golovkin fight got postponed a week and is now heading to Panama on Moreno vs Cermeno II undercard. So Golovkin not going to show up on US TV as it looks like.
WBA has ordered Golovkin to fight N“Dam for their vacant regular belt within 90 days. That should be a hell of a fight i just hope some promoter and tv channel shows interest on that fight to make it actually happen.

Germanys Zbik is not even in that top20 list for good reason i assume.
He still looks like an amateur despite having 30 pro fights on the record though from what it looks like the WBC is going to force Maravilla wasting his time on Zbik.

Gave the thread a new name riding the waves of Pirog's recent success. Next to impress is Golovkin on the 14th, then the Macklin-Barker winner in September! Whooo!

I don't wanna tempt faith but its pretty much a given that golovkin beats munoz next weekend and i actually think he stops n'jikam inside 8-9 rounds. N'Jikam, after watching a lot of his fights, seems to have good athtletic ability, but golovkin has the much better ring smarts and dangerous 1 punch ko power. Check out his last fight, put the guy makarov down 3 times each with 1 precise punch. He has great timing and wastes nothing.

I'd have the list like this in terms of potential:

    Golovkin
    Pirog
    Lemieux
    N'Dam N'Jikam
    Lara
    Korobov
    Guerrero
    Macklin
    Barker

Right now, today, what matches would you make with the fighters on your list?

    Great work, BigBone!

I hope to highlight this theme in one of my future articles... MW is definitely the biggest field of talented up-and-comers!

Wait do they have to be with each other? If not, then:

Golovkin v Sturm: I'm sure Gennady takes this one, being a better boxer and with Pavlik-esque power to boot(Sorry Boo:lol:)

Pirog v Sylvester: Sylvester is there for the taking for any good MW. Pirog definitely takes this one.

Lemieux v Rubio: I think this would be a good test for Lemieux to see if he can step above the gatekeeper level at his age and if his power can carry.

N'Dam N'Jikam v ??: Not sure about him, maybe someone like Lajuan Simon?

Lara v Ouma: Seeing how well Kassim did against Martirosyan would make it a very sturdy test for Lara but he's good enough to step up his level of opposition.

Korobov v a sturdy journeyman in a 6 or 8 rounder: It would be a decent return to see how his stamina is affected by the nasal surgery.

Guerrero v ???: Dunno here. He seems like a worse version of Jacobs so match him up with someone relatively soft but still decent.

Macklin v Barker: Thiis is actually the exact fight I would have made and am very excited to see it.

Those are nice match-ups. I'm very interested in Lemiuex right now. I'm not saying he's the next great middleweight, but I am going to keep a close eye on him. Rubio would be a nice step up, but I don't think Marco has the chin for a Lemiuex fight.

That punch is nasty. That's Julian Jackson one-punch knockout power right there.
