Yes, I guarantee if he was offered Huge Money he would take it.

1.5 million is not much to speak of, especially after the subtractions. Not for this type of fight after having to go through the first one and if you lose...WOW...it's basically a long road back if you can even make it back.

And we don't know what the future holds but if the fight is still there and the money is there...it will work out.

NO, you are just a moron to not be able to look at the business side of things. It is easy for you as a fan to want to decide for them but it is not your health nor is it your career. This is still about smart business decisions.

As a fan I want to see this fight but I am not an idiot to not see what the smart thing to do is based on risk vs. reward.

If Paul beats him in the same style fight as he did last time, that leaves him with maybe half of 1.5 million in the bank, with a title nobody cares about because people like Pac can pick and choose titles in divisions which means they can still avoid him all while having shortened your career because we all saw what the last fight did to him in his very next fight. Even Sergio said Williams basically looked off.

We can go down a list of fighters that avoided fights along with avoiding fights for a long period of time before they happened which means, they were pussies at one time if not just stayed straight-up pussies.

He never avoided Sergio. He already fought him.

Completely agree. He needs to establish himself in ONE weight class, this up and down bull****, (even if it was done out of necessity) he is wasting his time and getting him nowhere.

Forget middleweight, go to 154 stay there and be the man at 154[/quote]

    Agree 100%:deal

    Chavez JR

I really don't get the ones saying 1.5 million for each fighter is not enough... Guys it's not like they have a huge fanbase and they don't bring much to the table financially speaking.

Like I said before, if 1.5 million ain't enough, then these guys can just keep their asses sitting at home or making **** all fighting in half empty arenas...

HBO money shouldn't be seen as free candy distributed during Halloween, and on another note, I'm personally sick of the low risk / high reward fights. Let's stop accepting that bull**** and only accept the best to consistently face the best.

If one day Paul Williams or Martinez get big enough, then they will get a bigger share. For the time being, they should simply be greatful HBO still allows them to have a millionaire type paycheck !!

If they win, the best is yet to come... ! It's a high risk but could certainly turn into a high reward down the line !!

Except Williams already fought Martinez so he never avoided him. He fough him already. The others, never even had one fight despite Williams being the best man in the division after he defeated a prime Margarito.

However, it could be said with him with Clottey. I mentioned this in one of my posts either in this thread or another with it being "all sides" which would include Williams.

At least you get the business side to it all.

They are all pussies then in some people's book because they put business in front of bravado.

It's not enough for a fight like this given the first fight. It has already shown to have had an affect on Williams. This type of fight took a lot out of him, and given his age, and given the possibility he could have a longer future in the sport, his career could be cut short real fast if he had to go through another fight like that.

    If one fight = 1.5
Maybe he can have 2 lesser fights that equal that amount all while making bank and keeping your health at a higher rate until something bigger comes along.

Sergio is 35+ so he is looking to get paid as soon as possible.

If Paul wins, no, no guarantee the best is yet to come. Was the best yet to come when Paul beat Margarito?
How about when Paul beat Sergio last time out?

no he avoided a rematch with sergio. well correct that, he is avoiding a rematch with sergio.

listen, if you think taking the easy route aint a ***** move, thats your opinion. i think if you have a choice between fighter a and fighter b, and you choose the easier fighter, it is a ***** move. feel free to disagree.

    Those

fights actually may be bigger money fights than the fight with Sergio. However, we'll see if those fights can even be made.

Paul got beat up pretty good in that fight and the overt bad score left the outcome in serious doubt. An honest/fair judge could have swung the bout in Sergio's favor just as easily. The boxing world is clamoring for closure. The first fight was a FOTY candidate. Pdub will make a career high pay day. He may not have avoided him in the first fight, but he certainly seems to have learned from that fight to do so in the future.

So you are up for all the fighters in history that have not only avoided rematches but avoided fights entirely to be labeled pussies and/or taking the easier route, right?

Martinez was robbed in the first fight. Williams should cowboy the **** up and take this fight, the money is more than good.

Even from a business perspective, that some posters so gladly speak of, I can't understand Williams' reasoning not to take the fight. His weight-jumping ability makes him able to fight in other division were Maravilla to be too tough. He's got HBO behind him.

And you know what? On paper, he won the first fight. This means he most likely would get a rubber match unless he gets ridiculously schooled, like a shut-out. Because of Williams' obvious stamina advantage, that won't happen.

So basically, he can get another shot at the title if he loses the second one. Seeing as the first fight was so great, the amount of money HBO would shell out would probably increase in the third. And if he DON'T want a third one - he's almost guaranteed a title shot at 154.

As for the fans who "sees it from PTP:s perspective" and all that; I hope you apply the same standards to all boxers. Surely the people who defend Paul must realize that it accept protected fighters all over the world who milk their belts. All fighters want the most money for the least risk, so where should you draw the line? It's hard and arbitrary, not the least. Therefore, it's best to never understand this business perspective.

From the fans' perspective,we will have another FOTY. A fighter gets to prove that he was off the first fight. A shot at the middleweight championship. No shitty ABC belts. Shouldn't that be enough? And Paul better not talk about being avoided. Ok to use that as a marketing ploy but when the fans is gullible enough to STILL believe this... Well, it worries me. He's a businessman just like everyone else.

How long did it take Pac to fight JMM again?

Lewis vs. Vitali was an incredible fight that left fans clamoring for more...***** move?

It could also be his last big payday if it continues to take such a big hit on his health since his career will be over real quick. Understand? Long term = smarts = possible generating more money overall.

Or just in general with fighters straight out avoiding fights?

I don't know how much you make for a living but you certainly sound like a multi-millionnaire that's got it made.

1.5 million is very decent money for what these guys bring to the table. Without HBO they are aboslutely nothing !!!!

What's so hard to understand...if they don't get more it's because they financially don't create more...

I'm gonna be the last guy to pitty the end of their career after they made a few of those kinds of paychecks.. If they don't have enough to live well after that...it's cause they act like idiots with their money !!!

No one ever put a gun to these guys' heads and forced them to be boxers. They chose that and the possible consequences that come with it.

Most fighters in other contact sports could only dream of making close to that kind of money !!!

If 1.5 million ain't enough, then what's option 2 ? **** all to make anything remotely close to that kind of money. If I was HBO and that money wasn't good enough for them, I'd say sit your ass at home, and good luck with the rest of your life !!
