Is Ward vs. Dirrell capable of selling 15,000 tickets in America?

I say no. If it was these two in the final, I'd say yes, but it would have to be one guy's home town.

 

Well, I always though the SOG has been "officially" selling out The Oracle in Oakland, but I just never knew how much it was holding. Dirrell-Abraham did a great turnout considering the venue was chosen with like a month left until fight night. Anyway, I think they probably sell 15,000 if they are in the finals, in either fighter's backyard....basically what Boo said.

 

Ward sold over 10,000 for the Kessler fight and over 8,000 for the Green fight in Oakland. So he has cleared 9k.

 

In Vegas I could see them possibly doing 15K with good promotion and not some last min thrown together ****.. Ward I know could do it at Oracle..

 

This fight belongs in New York or Vegas. Normally I love to see fights in places like Detroit, but these two simply have little draw. Mayweather doesn't even draw a sellout in Grand Rapids.

 

Klitschkos sell 60,000 - 65,000 tickets in Germany all the time. Vitali/Johnson sold out during a huge snow storm at Madision Square Garden, New York, New York, USA!

That's how many people were at the fights, but that is not always indicative of how many tickets were actually paid for for fights nowdays in the US.

Dan Rafael was reporting the week before Ward v Green that it might be called off due to how bad the ticket sales were. So 8000 people were there, but how many of them actually paid?

There was an article a few months ago about the differences between attendance figures and actual sold tickets at US fights. For instance Darchinyan v Agbeko had an 'attendance' of 11722, but only 757 of those paid for their tickets. Berto and Quintana also sold less than 1000 tickets. Only about half the people at Klitschko v Arreola paid. Pacquiao v Clottey was announced at over 50k in attendance, but the actual number was under 42000 and the number that paid was 36371.

Marquez vs Diaz only shifted 6,000 tickets the rest were comps.

when you consider british fighters get 8,000 for Domestic title fights.

 

Not right now it can't. Maybe in 5 years when they're both stars, but at this point nobody outside of Showtime subscribers and big boxing fans know who they are.
