I just got promoted recently and i just realized i havent taken advantage of the No-Gi classes. Is it like starting from scratch and a whole different game or pretty much similar?

Ill ignore the idiot above. For the OG its hard for me to comment because I did things the opposite. I did NO-GI for a year then switched to GI. It was alittle difficult because I felt on average the GI guys where alot better you know more relaxed and techniqual. It took me awhile to get used to holding on to things or using the GI for some kind of leverage. I used to scramble alot and it became difficult using a GI. Overall not a big transition different but nothing big.

its alot faster without the gi and easier having a gi on is like training in a sauna sometimes! If ur training with the gi and av got used to gi chokes then u might find it difficult training no gi, personaly i like both prob just prefer no gi!

Mostly you have to change the focus to body control more than grabbing the gi.

im guessing the way you did it was more difficult than me. I think you can slip out from certain positions better without the gi and if you can escape from the gi than you can escape from anything.

How long you been training jimmie?

yeah i feel the road to purple will be longer though. I hear from blue to purple is where you polish you skills and basically plug any hole in your game.

Yes it will be difficult but hardwork will get us where we need to be. I also hear Blue to Purple is really about developing a good submission game. Getting to Blue is mostly about your defense. Ive been a Blue since December now and I can tell now my submissions have really improved I have a nice arsenal that I can use even vs tougher high rank guys. Ill be more confident once I get some stripes though due to work I havent did GI in nearly 2 months which of course is where I get my stripes.

See my school doesnt do stripes so sometimes im like am i really progressing? The thing is also everybody at my school is bigger than me so i really have to perfect my technique. When i go with someone my size thats where i feel i know how much i have learned.

Your right about getting to blue. Its all about defense and surviving i lost count how many times i got tapped out. :D

so i went to no gi this morning and i was surprised to see i did better than i expected. I felt the techniques went through even smoother and i didnt need to use as much strength and energy as we do in the gi.
