Need a forun for the fans from way back who were actually there and not just youtube

Most of the best posters on here weren't around at the time. As much as I love reading stories from JG or some of the older members, I also appreciate the posts from the young members, who've rad all that is out there and have enough knowledge to put forward a true opinion. McGrain is a great poster, Janitor is and you can say the same about the really young members like Manassa or GPater. I may disagree with these four on some points, but they're still quality posters who put forward good arguments and interesting subjects.

I don't like reading the posts from the people who are the problem. Those who have no real idea what they're talking about and bring the level down, with their awful jokes and excessive swearing, but there's plenty of quality from the young members on here. It's nice to read sentimental stories from the old timers, but there's plenty of quality from thsoe who weren't around at the time too.

 

I am not an old timer, I am a historian who grew up with boxing, who also boxed and come from a boxing family. I dont pull rank but I can tell who knows what they are talking about and who is new to the sport from the boxrec and youtube generation.

facts are one thing, theory and practice being another, then there is experience.

I think its fine these kids come on here, maybe they could learn something? I come on here to learn and also debate opinions. you tube and boxrec has its uses however. It saves turning to so many tapes and ring record books for refrerence. If you are passionate about the art whats wrong with reveiwing action quickly over the net?

 

Youtube and age isn't the problem.Hell, with the ease of uploading footage onto the internet these days, it's never been a better time to become a young boxing fan and actually have the chance to see a wide variety of fights.

Trolling and people just interested in pushing an agenda for their favourites are.As bujia says there are crap contributors of all ages.

Seperate duran /fab 4 and heavyweight forums would cut the regurgitated crap right down far more than what you are suggesting.

Yeah, GPater,..a great example of a very young guy with a boxing student's knowledge of the sport...and from what sources? Why, You Tube and other archival sources, both video's and boxing literature...how in the hell is a young guy like Gpater, Caponecartels, PeterthePrince, Tommygun71, or myself, for that matter, going to acquire any knowledge of the classic performers in the history of boxing? Sure you've got some young whippersnappers who're trying to make a name for themselves and end up being obnoxious with their underpinning of superficial quickie You Tube certification..but they're a minority..for the most part, they're boxing historians in the making..thanks to outlets like You Tube and similar sources. Hell, myself, I was'nt ever able to attend, way back in the late 60's and early 70's a night of boxing in Buenos Aires to see the great Nicolino Locche, or the smoky arenas of the 40' and 50's to see Pep, Marciano, Gavilan, etc., To limit classic boxing knowledge and opinions to only those who were so blessed and privelidged to attend these great fights in the flesh is really ridiculous and stifling, and aims to kill off boxing, at least the appreciation of the classics.

 

Age has nothing to do with it. Vast boxing knowledge can be gained at any age whatsoever, without having been there during the actual fights.
As no one on here was around at the turn of the century, does that mean no one can discuss the fighters of that era?

It's not like you contribute to a whole lot on this forum yourself other than complaining about younger fans or people with differing opinions and the occasional wrong prediction that you make. Perhaps sharing all that live experience you have in a respectful and intelligent manner would in turn find your opinions also being given more respect.

This is one of the best forums around. Enjoy it or find a better one.

 

I agree with you although some of the you tube genaration is very knowledgeable, the think that lacks is a feel for the fight game at the time and how the fighters were looked at back then. Im not trying to hate on the you tube generation as i was born after the real old timers fought and im still knowledgeable,but i will listen wholeheartidly to their opinions and viewpoints. I didnt become a fan until the late 70s so i havent been around as alot of you guys but, im lot older than the youtube guys.
