Half the people on this board will tell you they are better because of the "advancements in technique" or "training" or "nutrition" or something to that degree.

Like others have said, it is a direct result of their upbringing. None of these kids had to struggle. Boxing is an option for them, not a way of life - perhaps their only way out of a life of jails, drugs or an early death. All of these kids have OPTIONS. Hearns' kid is a college grad, an accountant, I believe. Foreman's son too is a college grad. Some of the others may be as well.

It takes an exceptional talent to overcome the natural disincentives that a comfortable life provides to go through the rigors of boxing training. Kind of makes you appreciate Mayweather a bit more doesn't it?

In any sport, there are loads of examples of famous players who were not as good as their fathers. There are just as many great players who were ten times better than their dad, but you dont hear about it because their father was an unknown journeyman.

 

They don't have the same hunger, haven't experienced the same struggle.

 

Because if their parents are elite its very hard for anyone, never mind if its their own kid or not, to out-do them ..

 

Although upbringing can contribute somewhat, it's not the exact reason as to why people achieve or don't achieve.

Less than the top 1% of boxers become famous/worldclass. Alot of sons of famous guys are in the top 5% but still aren't anywhere near their fathers when compared. Put simply, some fighters just won't be as good as the top operators of the era no matter what bloodline they come from. Also, we must remember that half of Tommy Hearns' son's genetic make-up was inherited from his mothers side.

The simple truth is that everyone is different/unique in their own way, no matter who your father is ,be it physically, mentally, etc

Examples of this include: Manny Pacquaio and Bobby Pacquaio. Muhammad Ali and Rahman Ali. Exact same background but different talent levels.
