Are the Klitschkos the best role models in boxing?

So he took steroids to heal an injury so that he could have an edge in his upcoming fight. Gotcha :good

 

No, Really.

 

Personally I don't think boxing has many role models due to the nature of the sport and the people who are involved.

The few that spring to mind for me would be

Ali
Ray Leonard
Barrerra
Lewis

As for the Klitschkos.... Maybe Wlad but certainly not Vitali. Giving up against Chris Byrd and crying and complaining after getting beaten by Lewis are not qualities that I would look up to.

 

The Klitchkos are good role models, but I have an affinity for Manny Pacquiao and Juan Diaz. Both are minorities, one has fought his way from 3rd world poverty to boxing superstar and congressman while the other is the son of poor immigrants and has fought his way to become a champion and is preparing for law school.

The most compelling story to me was Edison Miranda's. With his life story, you would forgive him if he became a hardcore criminal but he stuck to boxing and although he lost his most important fights, I'll always root for him.

I also like Andre Ward, and Gamboa's professionalism in the ring and out of it. Great role models.

 

I think they're very good role models

Smart, intelligent, charming and likeable

They're both educated and show respect to their opponents

The only negative thing is that they're a little boring in the ring and wont catch childrens imaginations regarding looking up to them as a role model

 

Some like them, some dont. To me they seem like good role models. But the poster above have a good point. Children and young people may not like their style.

I saw what they did in Brazil years ago. Really nice to help those poor kids.

 

Look at their charity work and their political commitment and tell me who's a better role model right now. If you start nitpicking because certain interviews then you shouldn't mention Ali as well.
I don't enjoy their boxing style, but I have to admit, that they are great ambassadors for the sport.

 

Nah, Americans are too ****ing stupid to accept behavior as a role model. The only role models we accept are people who look just like us and come from the same place as we do.

 

Well considering they've done more for Africa's children than any black boxer I know of through their amazing charity work and the fact that most of their harshest critics are American, & ironically majority black, then:

(And I don't mean that negatively either, I'm pointing out a fact. I can only imagine how upsetting that must feel for them).

 

What do these kids have to do for this money?

 

Do people really care much about the Klitchkos holding the titles? I am not sure it matters to most people. I think many people think their success has to do with size.
