A lot of the details are out. Angulo's side was offered $1M, $750K was to be paid to Angulo. Angulo apparently would take the fight for no less than $900K. His manager advised him to take the $750K. His manager called and texted Angulo 20 something times and never got a response. Shaw was then forced to turn down the fight. Angulo came out and confirmed that he would only do the fight if he got paid at least $900K. He claimed something about Martinez getting a percentage of the gate, and him bringing all the fans and selling out The Staples as his reason(this despite the fact that he's never headlined a big fight). Shaw has said that not even he knows what Martinez would be getting in the deal and that the fight would've been in the Nokia Theatre. I don't know where Angulo is getting his info., but he turned down the deal against the advice of his manager and promoter.

Angulo would get raped by Martinez anyways. Especially at 160. We're not missing out on much.

On the other hand, Shaw said that he would not consider matching Dzinziruk and Angulo, as Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum has done, say, when Manny Pacquiao dethroned Miguel Cotto as WBO welterweight (147 pounds) champion, Pacquiao decisioned Joshua Clottey in his first defense or Cotto dethroned Yuri Foreman as WBA junior middleweight king.

All of the fighters above were Top Rank-promoted.

"No I wouldn't do that. I don't agree with that," said Shaw. "I mean, why would I preach to promoters about matching their fighters only against each other and then turn around and do my own fighters against one another? No, that's not something that I would do."

Shaw didn't want to match them up.

The middleweight champ has no interest in fighting any middleweights. If Pavlik had behaved like Martinez has, ESB would have exploded with hate threads. Jermain still gets hated on for Spinks and Ouma. Martinez called out 39 year old welterweight Shane Mosely, and got a free pass on ESB. Now he calls out a light middleweight with 20 fights who lost to Cintron, and gets another free pass. The hypocrisy on ESB literally has no boundaries.
