Seriously,he's a terrific fighter that has had a long and storied career. What's also remarkable is that he's still world class(although clearly past his prime) at the age when lighter weight fighters are always finished.I'll never forget his being down 3 times in the 1st against a great puncher/fighter like Manny and not only making it close, but having many convinced he won.Brilliant.
His performance that fight got me back into boxing when i'd stopped keeping track for a couple years. He won the fight and won a fan for life.
I remember someone in an article referring to him as a Batman type of hero; no incredible power, handspeed, footspeed, reach, or height, but the brains, heart, and dedication to make himself as perfect as he could in order to rise to the top and do what needed to be done no matter who the opponent was. A fighter you just can't complain about.
You already know I had to stop by and show some love to my boy Marquez, much love and respect to the Mexican warrior!!!
Funny enough, I was thinking today that although I was never a fan, and kind of disliked him, he is a hell of a fighter and has my utmost respect.
