Why did Anderson Silva outsell Andre Ward in Ward's own hometown?

If Ward were to win the tournament undefeated... a fight with Bute at the Bell Center would probably sell out a 20k +

Anderson Silva is like a boxer and will actually strike

Ward uses MMA tactics clinching on the ropes

It would be a fascinating purse bid to follow.

Anderson Silva is marketed as the best fighter in the world and supported by an incredible card.

Andre Ward is a titlist, battling for supremacy in his weight class let alone the world. Oh, and Wards card was supported by Willie Nelson and John Dunham! WHO!

9,000 went to watch Andre Ward. 13,000 went to watch UFC.

Ward is still building his star power. Silva's is at its peak. Give it some time.

Also looking at what Achilles wrote, Ward > Silva already.

UFC is like circus that comes your town once a year, its easy to sell.
UFC fighters cant sell anything on their own name.

Almost definitely I'd say. Northern California, and California in general is a bit of a hot bed of MMA. One of the biggest promotions, Strikeforce is based in San Jose. It has one of the biggest and best training camps in the world in the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), also based in San Jose. Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu is near San Francisco I believe. The WEC was originally based in California and holds shows in cities like Sacramento quite often. Elsewhere there are prominent fighters and camps in San Diego, Team Quest in Temecula etc.

a comparison between silva and ward, isnt really that interesting.

what would be much more telling, would be a demographical survey, where the age of boxing fans vs the age of mma fans, was being "investigated"

i have a sneaky hunch, that the ufc has a firm grip, on the younger audience balls. And that the trend will continue.

i trained boxing myself, strarted out as a boxing fan, but as time has passed, im more hooked on mma.

i like the the fact it isnt only punching(boxing), theres numerous of other interesting techniques.. furthermore, in general its a bit more brutal and thats always entertaining :yep
