***Dawson vs Pascal RBR***

Exactly. Let's not have the overarching bullet point taken away from tonight be that Pascal would have been KTFO had the cut not caused the stoppage and rendering of the 11-round decision - we don't know that.

Dawson was never going to have a more inviting moment than after he landed that left counter uppercut - yet he DID NOT FINISH Pascal there, with a welcome mat right on the Canadian's face. Given how back-and-forth many of the rounds were, and how resilient Pascal has proven in the past, we can safely say that there's a good chance it would have gone to the final bell at the end of the twelfth anyway. Even with Dawson scoring a knockdown in the late 11th or 12th, he might have lost a decision.

Pascal was the better man tonight, for the majority of rounds. That is all that should be taken away from the fight.

 

You can say a lot of things about Dawson being passive and **** but you have to remember that Pascal was hurting Dawson on a regular basis. That's going to make any fighter just a little bit more respectful and passive then he normally would be.

Rewatch the fight. Pascal was hurting Dawson the whole fight. Thats more then anyone who has ever fought him can possibly say. Every other fighter that has hurt Dawson has hurt him once or twice at the most. Pascal hurt him every other round. Don't think that plays on a fighters mind.

Regardless of what you have to say about his performance the one think that you can say about chad Dawson now is that unlike other great American fighters who fight with his style Chad Dawson is not a thinking fighter. He made no adjustments at all the whole night. Not even to the tempo of the fight. Harold's quote about if Chad Dawson is one of the best fighters in the world he's _______ (literary god) was bang on the money. He looks the part. But he's not the goods.

Pascal was gone...That's why his body froze....Dawson looked at him like a ******...instead of jumping on him as soon as he landed....The same **** he was doing all night. Throwing one punch and not following up, but Dawson was fighting his fight quote un quote....HELLLLOOOOO Dawson you're in another mans backyard.....Bumb rush the *****, **** his wife, make a sandwich and drink some kool- aid and give his kid a high five. Then walk the **** out.....Not the bs fight plan you had tonight.

all dawson had to do was let his ****ing hands go. he had pascal hurt. why so tenative? he is the more talented. i dont mean to take away from pascal, but dawson beat himself more than pascal won.

 

Disagree. Pascal was seriously hurt on a few occassions, and especially that 11th round. He was getting hammered. After the flurry, that one left that Dawson thru basically stop Pascal dead in his tracks, but, once again, Dawson refused to follow up.

Props to Pascal for staying on his feet. Had he gone down, I think he gets finished.

 

Despite a little havering and making a couple of excuses, Dawson himself said that Pascal fought a very technically good fight. Let's not act like Pascal coasted on talent alone. He yanked rounds out of Chad's hands and even outboxed him at times, and with the exception of a couple of rounds routinely landed the harder and more telling blows.

 

Chad had him out in the 11th. Would've ko'd him in the 12th. But he needs to throw more punches and keep on the guy. He was too d'd up. He'll come back an utter beast! He ain't losing again. Either a straight rematch with Pascal or, as Larry Merchant said, Dawson vs Cloud and Pascal vs Bute...winners meet.

 

You're crazy. He got hit with a big shot, saw white, could have been knocked down, but he was smart, backed away, and he has great D.

And Pascal was gettin his wind back, and he would have NO DOUBT turned on the fire at the end of the round.

He was doin it in the previous round too. You can't expend all that energy, IE POWER PUNCHING, and NOT expect to tire out a lil.

Dawson was throwin like crazy, and nobody can sustain that type of output. Pascal was gonna bring it again, no doubt.

 

If Dawson at least threw a half decent straight left after that uppercut he wouldve scored a KD. Pascal's feet were completely squared up and he was dazed. If he did that who knows how the fight would have turned out.

Very pissed off right now Dawson ccan be a great fighter but fighting like that against anyone esp other world class opponents is only gonna get you loses.

 

The problem is we can't assume that; especially with the back-and-forth nature of the momentum throughout the whole night (sometimes shifting several times in a single round, like the 9th) and even more especially given Pascal's history of bouncing back from scary moments. For all we know Pascal could have climbed off the canvas late in the 11th, gone back to his corner, and come out and dominated the 12th...or even stopped Dawson.

There are just too many variables for us to speculate.

All we do know empirically is that at the exact moment the action was interrupted, Pascal was not "on his way out". He certainly had been a few moments before, but Dawson let him off the hook and back into the hunt briefly before the headbutt.

Dawson got out classed for most of the fight....big deal, it happen folx. Only idiots would say he was exposed. Dawson will revamp himself and win the rematch. Wasn't Mayweather sr. Chad's trainer once upon a time?
