In fairness, Calzaghe was better than those guys(obviously the ones he beat, and certainly Ottke as well).

But I get what you're saying.

 

Joe would lose imo but would make a fight of it.No way would he be taken apart by Jones.Calzaghe is not a fave of mine by any stretch but you dont win as many as he did without good reason.A prime Roy wins but wins a fight not a shutout.

 

The last true ride-or-die boxer whose legacy was always in question because of the fights he seemed to be avoiding was Roy Jones Jr. Regardless of who he fought, Jones was one of the greatest fighters anyone had ever seen. He made fans fall in love with him in the ring, even when there were piles of questions and contradictions that lived outside of the ring.


In the end, Roy Jones Jr. disappointed his fans.

Then he just stopped fighting. He stopped fighting while he was in the ring.

No one in recent boxing history let his fanbase down the way Roy did. Ask Roy Jones Jr. fans; they'll tell you about the emptiness they still feel in their guts about how Roy went out. They'll tell stories of betrayal.

It's the last sentence of yours that I will agree with.

But no boxer ever prepares himself to get hit with forearms. Heck, no boxer prepares himself to get hit by anything that's not a gloved fist unless you want to get cut in sparring, which is stupid.

Calzaghe has a clean face growing up. So yeah, I really doubt he'd have been hit by a lucky forearm.

And still, power is the last thing that ever leaves a fighter. RJJ was still fast in terms of handspeed. What he lost were his legs and his fast twitch reflexes.

In the end, Calzaghe took all of RJJ's actual punches and got through them like he wasn't even hurt.

And to everyone here, the fact that if RJJ beats Calzaghe ain't no disrespect to Calzaghe. RJJ is one of the best fighters of our generation in his prime after all. But to say Calzaghe will just get completely beaten is in and of itself just plain ignorant. Calzaghe was 37 and Roy only 2 years older when they fought and both surely weren't in the peak of their powers anymore as well.

 

All I can say is that Calzaghe will be heavily and underdog when he fights Prime Jones.

 

Didnt Jones himself it would have been a toss up between him an JC in their primes ...
The only difference between Jones and JC is that JC learned the fundamentals and would fall back on them if needed. Jones never did learn em.

No.. Jones CARRIED fighters not as good as calslappy when he could have and should have gotten rid of them. Just like he would more than likely carry Calzaghe the full twelve.

 

prime rjj was a monster, i think joe would have got smashed in 6rds.rjj would walk right threw his slaps and and hit joe with he hardest fastest **** he ever seen.but i think prime rjj smashes everyone.

 

I could see how you would think this, if you never saw RJJ fight.

RJJ plays with Calzaghe, does anything he wants to him anytime he wants, and cruises to a decision unless Joe pisses him off.

 

I don't think Roy ever fought anyone like prime Calzaghe before. And Calzaghe DID walk through RJJ's power after the first round.

 

Roid Jones was a completely different fighter once the balco stuff came to light - Funny that!!

 

no chance? Joe has a chance, but its around a 10% chance, thats not to say it would be a shut out by any stretch. If they fought Joe win some rounds but Roy would always get the win.

All this talk of Jones stopping Joe is based on nothing, Calzaghe was never stopped therefore nobody knows what it would have truly taken to stop him. He has an iron jaw and as much heart as anyone.

Prime Roy was masterful.
