I would call it B.S if Pac was taking Margarito out of his element, and using it to his advantage. Fact is, fighting at 151 benefits Margarito more than it does Pac. Pac is moving up in weight against a bigger stronger man.

Pac is small for even WW. Going up to fight a guy like Marg at 151 plays more into Margarito's advantage than it does Pac. It would be a big size disadvantage for Pac even if he faced Margarito at WW. Pac is a natural 140lber at best. Margarito has the height, reach, power advantage over Pac. All Pac has is the speed advantage.

Given his size and body specs, he's a natural 140lber. He's smaller than pretty much every single WW out there.

i have a problem with margo getting a big fight first of all but i can look past that just , i can also look past a catchweight fight thats pointless as margo can im sure still make 147 , but i cant look past fighting for the 154 title at a contracted weight of 150

    no title no problem

Fight should be at 154...i could only imagine what woulda happened had oscar had to come down to 151..this board woulda been goin crazy..i was new posting at the time and if floyd woulda asked for a 151lb catchweight he woulda been thrown to the fire burned already..

But its pac so its ok..

Exactly. Imagine if Floyd and Shane would have been at a 145 or 146 lb catchweight?

People here saying that it benefits Margo; Margo's trainer and team should identify his ideal weight and fight at it. Just because the max is 154, if he is indeed better at 151, he should aim for that at it if he chooses. There's something wrong with dictating what your opponents weight should be outside of the rules :deal

Flawed example. More appropriate would be to compare the % difference rather than absolute pounds because of their unequal starting weights. Manny at a catchweight of 150 is like Floyd at a catchweight of 174. But who are we kidding? What can't a person do with the right cocktail of PEDs?

I agree Pacquiao is small for 147lbs...but the only reason he is moving up again is because Arum has Margarito in his stable. They were considering Foreman at one point but decided against it because of the size difference. If you want to fight for a World Title in a new weight class...fight within the full weight range. You have proven you are an elite boxer, now let the opposition come in at the maximum weight the class allows...isn't that the point of fighting for a World Title, to show you are world class and can overcome certain disadvantages.

And no...I highly doubt the catchweight holds any advantages for Margarito. He was out of action for a year, he probably can't make 147lbs anymore...and no doubt will struggle to make 151lbs.
