Who thinks DLH took a dive against B-Hop?

My thoughts exactly... on both counts.

 

Yeah, Hopkins looked much taller and bigger than DLH.
But I think DLH could have made the count.

 

With all the worthless fighters in proffessional boxing in present times, it seems kind of shocking that someone would actually think a true "old school" warrior like Dela Hoya would take a dive against anyone. Liver shots paralyze the body with agonizing pain.....it is ranked as one of the deadliest punches to get hit with in the ring.....Espn has a whole article up on their boxing site on crusing body blows and the results of a devistating liver shot. Oscar was not strong enough at that weight to contend with B'hop. Plain and simple. He took a shot and went down in flames. I can't knock the guy for having the courage to go up and face an elite at that weight class.

DLH didnt take a dive, he was knockedout by Bhop. Also, on a side note he was winning the fight to that point.

 

Winning by hitting air? You must be the delusional fans who cheered when he threw combos that hit air :rofl

 

he didn't take a dive but he knew he was gonna take a beating so he didn't try his best to get up.

 

BHOP was already up by 6 points on 1 card, 4 on the other, and OScar was up by 2 on the third one. Considering the 9th would've been 10-8 for BHOP you would have Hopkins up by 8 points on 1 card, 6 on the other, and even on the third.

so please explain how Oscar was winning the fight to that point?

I think no doubt he got hit. No doubt it hurt.

There is doubt in my mind as to whether ODLH could have got up.

I would wager he would have got up against Vargas in the same situation.

 

It looked fishy to me but then I wasn't hit in the liver.

I have KO a friend accidentally years ago when a group of us we were rough-housing , I swung my elbow backwards and caught him in the mid section somewhere , it didn't feel hard at all but he went down like he was shot , after a couple minutes he was fine.

Bottom line is the Hopkin's shot may have been a legit KO but I didn't like the way Oscar was able to pound the canvas with one glove while he was down and his eyes looked pretty clear. I thought he could get up but decided he gave enough to the paying saps .... er ... fans.

Also shortly after that fight Oscar and Bernard were the best of buddies with Hopkins joining Golden Boy Productions. Boxing is a business and believe me few boxers know how to milk the system as much as Oscar does.

 

good point. a good liver shot does sap all of your strngth. which is why i doubt somewhat the legitimacy of that shot. tell me how many fighters you have seen hit with a great body shot who had the strength to pound the mat the way dlh did.

not saying he took a dive, but his reaction so soon after being supposedly nailed by a body shot is not consistent with what we have seen from other fighters in the same situation.

 

Agreed. I saw that punch in slo-mo and it was nasty. Same punch Gatti caught Sturm with (was it Sturm?. Not sure. Some european guy, though)

 

When I saw the fight for the first time- I was really surprised the way Oscar went down, I know that body shots hurt a lot, but I really felt he took a dive on this occasion...it just looked all wrong- very staged.

 

No....when I look at Hattons body shot of Castillo it diddnt look that hard either..

Check out PBFs stoppage body shot of Sharmba did look hard at all....
