I'd think a lot more of Jones if he DID go after Lewis after beating Ruiz. But he didn't.
Archie Moore went after Marciano. Billy Conn went after Louis. Bob Foster went after Frazier.
But because of the love he receives, and his own delusion causing ego, he gets away with calling himself "the heavyweight champion of the world", just because he beat Ruiz.
    LOL!
Did Roy actually wonder why take a chance and fight Lewis when you can put yourself in the company Ali , Frazier and Foreman by beating John Ruiz?
At the time I was pretty excited about Jones getting into the heavyweight mix at the time. Other fans were too. Could it be that I had more confidence in Roy than Roy did?
Damn, why didn't he go for it?

    I think so!

Its a shame how his post-Ruiz adventures have harmed him :-(

Jones would only stand a chance against Lewis in the ring if he had a gun with him. But IF he did do that and retired. Not taking all those pathetic loses at the end of his career...yeah, he would definitely be in contention for best ever.

Roy Jones would not have beaten Lennox Lewis.Lewis just too big and strong with a pteradactyl reach.Prime Jones' only chance to survive a knock out would be to run all night long.He has no chance to win this one.None.

Archie Moore was 5'10 as was Marciano the highest Marciano ever weighed was 229 ..

Conn was 6'1 Louis was 6'2 for the Conn fight he was 182 ..

Foster was actually bigger 6'3 than Frazier 5'10 and both men were above 200 ..

But yet you would have respect for Jones who at his max was 199 at 5'11 had he fought Lewis ??Who stands 6'5 and averages 220 ? His heighest weight was 248 ??

Yeah I can see why Jones deserves no respect ! :bbb

In answer to your hypothetical scenario..if jones had gone on to beat Lewis then It wouldnt be unfair to call him the GOAT.

However its kind of a pointless "what if" because the outcome of that fight is in no doubt. Shouldnt a hypothetical question of this nature at least have some basis within reality..

What if pac moves up and beats Bute?

Yes, it is out of the realms of possibility. Lewis is a 6'5" 245 lb heavyweight for **** sake, and one of the heaviest punchers in the divisions history, not to mention skilled. There is no way Jones could take a power-punch off of Lewis, and before you say, I'm NOT one of the Roy Jones 'glass-jaw' briga(y)de.

    Lewis would have killed him.

Roy should have retired after Ruiz. I thought for a second there that he was and then came in Tarver opening his mouth and Roy couldn't put his ego aside.

I don't know if it was the roids or what, but Jones looked awsome at 200lbs that night vs Ruiz! I'd give that Roy Jones an outside shot of carefully out-boxing the past his prime Lewis to a contraversial split decision win.

OK...probably not,,, but hell yeah, if he did he'd be considered top 5 ATG for sure. Alot of people already had him there just after beating Ruiz.

ROFLMAO Jones would have more chance of walking across the atlantic than he would have of beating Lewis. Jones could be juiced up to the gills too :hi:

It would have looked great, but not best ever. I think in that case Lennox was not rated as best ever so it would have been the Lennox chin or skills which would have been reevaluated. Fact is Roy beat Ruiz. A guy who was not a great fighter. Roy never would have beaten Lennox.
