Not for me, I think Lamotta VI is very special. It's one of the best punching performances captured on film and a huge slice of it is done off the backfoot. Pretty close to unparalleled I think - maybe totally unparalleled. All of this against a bigger opponent attacking in rushes.

I guess you could make an argument if you wanted to, but I wouldn't be buying.

And stopping the granite chinned LaMotta. Robinson beat LaMotta, but the way he did it in a special manner. I think LaMotta had some good pressure early on. The only argument I could see is the fact that LaMotta was weight-drained (But that's almost a modern excuse) and had to lose like 6 pounds a day before the fight. Still very impressive nevertheless.

The first one that came to mind when I first saw this thread was Max Schmeling beating Joe Louis (at least at heavyweight) - I'd dare say this is certainly one of the best wins any heavyweight in history pulled off in my book - and for anyone who beleives Fireman Jim Flynn's one round KO of a prime Jack Dempsey (hahahahah) was genuine - then that one is the best performance of any FIGHTER in history by not just miles.....but lightyears!! But I don't think it was real so yeah Schmeling over Louis

    Morales vs Pacquiao I

Right after the final war of his brutal, epic trilogy with Barrera, the previous two had already taken so much out of him, there were signs he was nearing the end of his career coming into their 3rd battle, which he was defeated in. Coming up against the man who had just dominated Barrera, a relentless buzzsaw who was on a path to becoming a P4P king and one of the greatest fighters, if not the greatest fighter of recent times, Pacquiao. He took his giant, shop-worn balls and dropped them right in the middle of this path and he made the Pacman take a detour.

He captured glory one last time, gave everything he had left, i believe(all his later fights are evidence). To beat the man who had just dominated his ultimate nemesis(Barrera), who was on an unstoppable streak, who would continue on this unstoppable streak and achieve great things after this fight, at the tail end of his career.

In twenty years time I believe this win will be very highly regarded.

Hopefully someone then will describe it as well as you did just now Duranium. :smoke

I was dissapointed this thread didn't pick up. Though, I didn't help the cause I'm back though. A lot of mundane him versus him type threads. Where are all the self-appointed historians or boxing fans/experts to nominate so performances? Classic can help determine those ATG performances. I thought this would spice things up..

I guess I'll nominate some of the more obvious and well-known ones that haven't yet been nominated.

I see Duran in his prime losing to Mayweather like he did to Leonard in the second fight. If he brawls like Ray did in the first fight he loses. If he boxes like he has done in every fight I have seen then he wins
I see no plan b with Duran so if he meets a great boxer he loses. That is meant in the context of SRL,Hearns ,Hagler. All bigger guys and greats but Floyd the same type of fighter
