Nope but Leonard looked pitiful in the 10th & 11th and I said, "Leonard wasn't the easiest guy to take out past prime or not". Also, that was an act of mercy so it still fits in with what the OP said. Come to think of it, he showed mercy towards Vaden a guy he could've token out but decided not too.

That's a great example, Bugner was clearly out on his feet and he was sinking to one knee if I remember correctly and Frazier loaded up for another mammoth left hook. Bugner was completely defenseless, and Frazier started to throw it, but stopped himself mid-swing.

Ali had a few notable occasions: he waved the ref in during his second fight with Quarry, he didn't finish off Foreman as he was stumbling around the ring, etc.

Don't know if this exactly counts, but in the first Patterson-Johansson fight it was Ingemar's corner that screamed at the ref to stop the fight as Johansson was just pummeling Patterson. (Floyd had no clue where he was after the first KD, let alone after that).

Chavez was usually a merciless *******, but I remember in his first fight with Jukobowski (sp?) he kept looking at the ref to stop things, and when the ref would he would throw another combination or two, then look at the ref again.

J, I saw that fight in Philly in 1948. In the sixth round Williams opened up on the game Beau Jack with a terrible onslaught of punches..Beau Jack's had his arm's in back of him entangled through the ropes, taking this
horrible beating, and he COULDN'T fall...We , the crowd were screaming to stop the fight and Ike Williams was pleading for the lax referee to stopo the bout..Williams, though a bitter rival of Beau Jack, showed mercy that night that I will never forget...
Aside-as a youngster Ike Williams, Beau Jack, and the underated Bob
Montgomery fought each other often and I was fortunate to have seen their bouts together in the old MSG....They were some trio...

Bugner came back from that knockdown to buckle Frazier with a right hand late in the round. Sometimes, it does help to be able to discriminate in these instances. Smoke was sporting in that situation, but that was a dangerous opponent to cut slack with.

Another more appropriate instance was Norton's one punch knockout of Randy Stephens. Ken's right cross stiffened up Randy, who was wide open and helpless against a follow up assault. Instead of taking advantage, Norton held fire in a characteristic act of sportsmanship, allowing his over matched opponent to drop and take the full count. The manager of Stephens thanked Ken for his restraint. My own opinion was that a legitimate one punch knockout also looked better for Norton on the Holmes-Evangelista undercard, and put a bit of pressure on Larry to similarly impress. (Holmes-Norton II was a guaranteed sell to the public after that card, but Shavers scuttled everything.)

Shocking refereeing. You can tell when a guy's never taken a shot himself. That was almost as bad as the Hall fight.

technically vaden was the one who was apolagetic. vaden slept with norris's then wife. and didnt show anything at all.

MP: In December 1995 you posted a wide twelve-round unanimous decision victory over Paul Vaden in an important unification match for his IBF light middleweight title with a systematic beat down. It’s a point of record that you disliked Vaden intensely, lending a sort of grudge match spin to the event. How did you feel taking his championship and why the animosity towards him?
Winning that title was another great feeling of mine. I wanted to become the undisputed world champion. The third guy (WBA titlist Julio Cesar Vasquez) wouldn’t fight me and this other guy Paul Vaden was having an affair with my ex-wife and that’s why we had all of the anger and animosity. This guy would come into the gym and hang on my coattails and all along he was trying to screw my wife. He acted as though he wanted to be my friend and hang around me. So I was angry going into the fight and even building up to the fight. I would catch her coming from his apartment; me being a Gemini, I was very snoopy, the way I would snoop around and investigate. I was a real private investigator. I was following her around and would catch her going to his place. I was just so upset, so pissed off that she was doing this to me with a guy that boxed. I would have been hurt if it had been somebody else, some other stranger, but it was a guy who was trying to be my friend and you know, wanted to be a champion, the type of champion I was at that point.
I was so pissed off that in that fight, I wanted to kill him. I truly wanted to kill that man. It was the first time I ever really wanted to destroy a man and I went out there trying to…..I didn’t want to knock him out. I just wanted to beat him for twelve rounds; I just wanted hurt him. I kept beating his ribs, beating his arms, trying to make him bleed and just slowly trying to kill this guy for twelve rounds, man. So I hit him and when I hurt him, I would let him recover and just continue to keep beating on him.

Interesting read thanks:good. This says Norris could've token him out but instead chose to give him a beating. I was wrong Norris wasn't showing mercy, he was being sadistic for the right reasons. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
