At the end of the day Calzaghe was a great fighter and he retired undefeated, certainly an ATG top 100

During Calzaghe's reign at super middle, the competition was super weak. There wasn't anyone for him face that he didn't save for Ottke, Lucas, Beyer, Thomas Tate, Bruno Girard and Mundine. Outside of Ottke (which Joe tried hard to make), the other guys really weren't a threat.

He agreed to fight Hopkins right after the Tito fight, but Don King screwed us out of that fight. All the greats like Benn, Collins, Jones, etc were on the way out when Joe started to get established. Guys like Reid, Sheika, Starie were all at their peak when Joe fought them. I remember wanting Joe to lose and thinking Charles Brewer was the man to do it. Joe handled him easily.

I agree. Around 100 is where I reckon him to be too.

The biggest problem with Calzaghe's resume is that he Mitchell and Ottke were around at the same time, and the opposition at 168 was extremely weak from 1998 til now.
Brewer,Thomas Tate, Reid, Mundine, Sheika, Siaca, Girard, and Liles all seemed to be #1 contenders for the WBA and IBF and kept getting numerous title shots in a round robin for the early part of the decade.
Couple that with Ottke not wanting anything to do with JC. And throw in that the
WBC had Beyer, Catley, Thobela, Lucas and Sanavia flip flopping and trading that title until Kessler got a hold of it and you have a pretty messy situation at 168 for a lot of years.

Calzaghe fought for the worst of the organizational titles(WBO). Ottke never left Germany and when he relinquished his belt(IBF) Jeff Lacy won it and JC beat him less than 2 years later.
After it was all said and done Kessler ended up with both the WBA(beating Siaca) and WBC(beating Beyer) belts by beating former Ottke retreads. And JC schooled his ass.
For all intents and purposes: Joe Calzaghe completely cleaned out the Supermiddleweight division by beating the "Man" who beat the man and winning every single belt in the division.

Due to politics as well as Jones dabbling at heavyweight and Hopkins chasing the $ vs. Trinidad and DLH, there really wasn't much more for Calzaghe to do. Who did he really miss? Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver, Chad Dawson, Jermain Taylor, Pavlik. Well Tarver was way too busy looking for RJJ, Dawson was a pup, Taylor was busy with Hopkins, Pavlik was pulverizing middleweights, and Johnson lost to every one under the sun for the better part of a decade.

His resume' sucks dick. But he beat everyone in front of him, and beat the really good/great fighters in a very decisive manner. I know RJJ and Hopkins were old, but in 2001, 2002, 2003 they wouldn't even take Calzaghe seriously.

What is wrong with waitng your turn? And thriving when opportunity knocks.

All information pulled from Boxrec, put into a lengthy, fancy post to make it look like he was knowledgeable.

That just about sums up DINAMITA's entire post history on ever account he had.

I won't say he only faced bums...but his resume is extremely weak for how high he's regarded.

I agree that calling any pro a bum or questioning a fighter's balls or heart is generally in poor taste.

I find it odd that most of the criticism is aimed at the TS, but not many seem to refute his assertions about Calzaghe.

I don't understand why the threat starter is being insulted. It's not like he changed their records on purpose, that's the situation surrounding those guys before the fights happened. The threat starter can't change those facts as he desires even if he wants to, so why is he getting insulted is beyond me.

Some of these Calzaghe guys need to read this before making some of these ridiculous threads.

Good Job! Any real boxing fan would recognize the weak opposition filling Calzaghe's resume without the aid of BoxingRec. The chumps Frank Warren choose for Calzaghe to fight are obviously meant to pad Joe's resume for all of his career with Bums, and lower contender level opposition. Real boxing fans easily unstand that a fighter can not become a great by fighting B levels contenders like Lacy, Woodard, or Primped and packaged Viking bums like Kessler whose weak resume is almost an exact duplicate of Warren's Calzaghe plan. The Danes and drunken Brits can claim all the illusion of Calzaghe's importance all they wish, but the rest of the world knows full well they both Calzaghe and Kessler are manufactured and carefully packaged chumps, King Of The Bums, and always will be.
