I very much doubt that. First, Dirrell only stepped up because of the opportunity to participate in the tournament. Had Jermain beat Froch, there probably would have been no tournament, and even if there was, Jermain would have been left out due to cost just like Bute and Pavlik were. Second, Jermain was much more likely to be effective against Dirrell than Froch and Abraham were.
Dirrell was number 2 contender for the WBC title when Froch won it. So invariably the same would have been true for Taylors title. That fight happens regardless of the super six happening. Oh and Dirrell boxes circles around Jermain Taylor.
If he held on and won it would have been an injustice. No one was Froch 4 up on one card but neither was Taylor 4 up on the other 2. It was a cert for a rematch and Froch would have stopped him a bit sooner I think.
Miguel Espino was the WBC #3 contender! WBC rankings mean diddly ****. If Jermain was still good enough to beat Carl Froch, he would have terrorized Andre "Falling Down" Dirrell. Andre could just barely keep Carl the Clumsy away from him. He would have had virtually no chance against a peak Taylor, and if Taylor would have beat Froch, you'd have to say he was still "peak."
Strange question, if Taylor had managed to finish that round hed of won on points but its the very fact that he is indeed shot that lost him the fight. Hes so shot thanks to his asthma that when he grinds to a halt he really grinds to a standstill and becomes a punching bag. Such a shame cuz hes a quality skilled fighter. But for all the hard work he did against Froch Carl is the type of fighter that just does not go away and if you begin to weaken hes there to punish you.
Taylor would probably be WBC SMW Champion in recess due to extensive brain damage and recovery in hospital... Allan Green or Sakio Bika would still fill in that gap of Taylor Vacant WBC belt would be still Froch's because his fight with Dirrell could be officialy sanctioned by the WBC because of both men's ranking. Nothing would change except Froch would have 2 losses so far, and Green too I guess
taylor's a prime example of a flawed champion who was very gifted. it doesn't take much for a fighter to fall from grace once his achilles heel is known.
Dint they show the official scores and after the knockdown Froch would have gotten the split decision?
No, the judges had it 106-102 for Taylor twice and 106-102 Froch. So even with a 10-7 last round Froch would have lost a split. Froch needed the stoppage on the cards. Mind you against Taylor in the states he needed the stoppage from the opening bell.
Mind you against Taylor in the states he needed the stoppage from the opening bell.
dont show your bias and cheapen your argument by saying this...
If J Taylor had of got up from the KD and not been put down again he would have been a SD winner, but I think it would have been one of those fights where if J Taylor had of won he would have had less respect than in losing due to the way he would have finished. Its funny how fans think like that. It would have been a similar scenario to the first Bute vs Andrade (which now seems almost forgotten due to Butes quick return win). I think there would have been a big queue of challengers for Taylor had he won the WBC title, but think he would have lost to the next reasonable SMW he fought. I always felt a bit sorry for Taylor as he never seemed to duck anyone, win or lose
Taylor at his peak was full of mistakes. What's happened to him since Hopkins should have been expected. His handlers were exhausted from carrying him.
