Rahman vs. Lawrence Tonight (Thursday)

I would like to know when it starts too? Not the most exiting match up but stil hope for a KO!

 

The fight itself should start around 10, and Im curious to see how well Rahamn does tonite.

 

I'm with you, Heavy. I've been following Rahman's latest comeback and I am interested in seeing how he looks tonight. I will actually be at the Andy Lee/Jonathon Banks card here in the Detroit area, but I'm taping the Versus card. Sorry, I don't know of a link to see it.

 

Zuri Lawerence beat Jameel Mccline. (and he wasnt knocked down 3 times, lol.)

This could be a dangeous fight for Rahman, if he is as poor tonight as he was against Sykes.

 

I think Lawrence has declined a lot since then. He suffered huge KO losses to Brock and Guinn. As long as Rahman is in shape, he should put Zuri away in a few rounds.

 

Rahman is down to 243, so that's good news

 

Lawrence is a big man.. He is like Mcline , not to be overlooked and like we saw with him against Peter , could reap havoc in the highest order..

I like Rahman but he has dissapointed me too often..

I always expect the unexpected...........

 

Rahman probably should of put Sykes away in a few rounds as well, Derek Bryant (18-4-1) did TKO 4!

True. But Rahman being 261lbs against Sykes played a large part in that.

 

Program guide on my TV says Rahman vs Sherman Williams? Is this incorrect I take it?

 

Sherman dropped out. Lawrence was the late replacement.

 

As I've mentioned here before, I find it interesting how Rahman's latest comeback parallels his last one.

After losing to Ruiz in a snoozer at the end of 2003...

2004-03-11 ~ 255¼lbs, beat Alfred Cole (34-12-3) by UD10, given a rough time and scraping through 96-94 on all three cards.
2004-04-16 ~ 257, beat Mario Cawley (22-11) by TKO2 (though a famously weak performance by Cawley)
2004-06-17 ~ 247¾, beat Rob Calloway (47-4-1) by KO2
2004-07-28 ~ 246¾, beat Terrence Lewis (32-14-1) by KO2
2004-11-13 ~ 232, beat Kali Meehan (29-2) by TKO4

That got him an April title shot against Vitali K, which ultimately ended up with Rahman beating Barrett in Aug '05 for the Interim WBC belt.

Now, this comeback...

2007-06-14 ~ 261, beat Taurus Sykes (25-3-1) by UD10, struggling at times before prevailing 95-93, 97-91, 98-90
2007-09-07 ~ 250, beat Dicky Ryan (55-9) by TKO2
2007-10-18 ~ 240, beat Cerrone Fox (8-6) by TKO1
2007-11-15 ~ 243, due to fight Zuri Lawrence (23-12-4)

It's just kinda weird how closely it's been mirrored. Overweight and struggling to a points win, another stoppage but still heavy, then getting himself back into much better shape to score another knockout or two...even the timeframe involved is fairly close.

If he stops Lawrence fairly quickly and looks good doing it, then gets at least a top ten guy early on next year (if not a title eliminator), that'd be quite creepy


Maybe working against Rahman tonight though is that he's gone from fighting the shorter Williams to the tall 6'4 or so Zuri. Could be an awkward and slow start to this one.

 

"97-91, 98-90" 'against Sykes,' I dont know WTF those judges were watching. 95-93 was about right.
