Agreed it looks like a decent - maybe even good - fight. I just can't figure out why JC is calling out Canelo and a retired DLH.

 

I'm really happy Cotto is taking this fight. He needs to KO a named opponent and gain some confidence. It'll feel really good again to see Cotto get a dominant win again.

 

canelo said some thangs a few months back....jr's team responded with an offer but never heard **** from canelo since.....

Yes. I can understand wanting to win the DLH lottery but it makes him (JCC Jr) look foolish - calling out a retired guy.

 

I see this as a tough tough fight. If Cotto boxes and stays inside, and doesn't run out of gas I see him winning. But if Chavez can keep his distance and not get into too many exchanges I see him winning close.

I think the key will come down to CONDITIONING! Chavez has Ariza mixing that stuff for him now, so who knows.....

you obviously dont get it....chavez jr has always said it would be a dream to beat the this outta the man that beat the **** outta his dad (twice)....he basically wants to do to oscar what was done to his father, fight him when he's older and past it so he can see what it feels like (i guess manny took care of that one huh :rofl)

then like a genie from a bottle, it seems that his wish is gonna be granted when oscar started talking about fighting jr at azteca stadium etc etc....so it pretty much set the stage, but then oscar started slowly but surely retiring and nothings been heard since.....but yeah, pretty much chavez jr just wants revenge for his dad

I still think it makes him look foolish (to say the least). He should thank Santa Arum and his father that he's even being considered for a title bout.

 

Promoter Bob Arum said Friday world junior-middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will defend his belt Dec. 4 against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., with Madison Square Garden strongly positioned to land the bout.

"That fight will happen, we're waiting on terms to be finalized and for the site, but Madison Square Garden is available, and that's great news," Arum said.

Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) has fought at MSG six times, anchoring Puerto Rican parade weekends. He most recently became the WBA champion by defeating Yuri Foreman at Yankee Stadium in June.

In Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KOs), Cotto will be facing the son of Mexico's boxing legend, who has united with trainer Freddie Roach and is coming off a decision over previously unbeaten John Duddy.

"It's a guaranteed sellout at MSG," Arum said.
