What does a Hopkins victory do for his legacy?

No i don't think this overthrows Jones at all. Jean Pascal is nothing special at all. He's just an average fighter. He has a loss to Froch and a win against Dawson, that's all he has on resume SO FAR.

It would be a good considering where Hopkins is at right now, but it wouldn't even be top 5 of his best.

Honestly I see Hopkins beating Pascal like he did to Tarver very easy fight for him.

 

First of all, I'm fairly confident he's going to lose... but would he win it will be a major accomplishment.
Not that Pascal is among the best fighters he ever faced or beaten for that matter, but because B-:hop is far over the hill and then still beating the #1 LHW is monumental.

Still he wouldn't pass RJJ in my book, people just forget how good Roy was and what the man accomplished and how. He's just tainting his legacy by going on far too long (the thing he said would never happen to him).

 

The fight is winnable for Hopkins and a win for him is going to overrate his legacy far and beyond.

A win wont put him ahead of RJJ but it will shut the haters up that his legacy is only glorified from beating up smaller fighters (with the exception of Tarver).

 

At 45/46 years old, a win over Pascal at 175 for the former long reigning middleweight champion would be his best single win, imo. Not the best fighter on his resume at all, but the context would make it the best win, IMO. It would make it a monstrous scalp, to me. While it wouldn't put him above Jones on my list, it makes a reasonable case if someone else wanted to, to me.

Hopkins legacy is made up of beating up smaller men, at least roy jones didn't chase guys smaller than him.

Froch already beat pascal, this win does hardly anything to a man who got beat by calzaghe.

 

Jean Pascal isn't special but being LHW champion of the world at 50 years old is. It would be an extraordinary accomplishment for someone who ,I believe, has hung around this long for exactly this sort of opportunity.

 

It would be a very big win for him and improve his legacy quite a bit. At least a Top3 win up there with Trinidad and Tarver.

I already think Hopkins and Jones rank in the same bracket. There isn´t much between them and you can rank either one above the other. If Hopkins would beat Pascal I think he should be ranked above Jones.
Best of his generation? Well, not if you consider Pacquiao and Holyfield part of it.
