I think Randy will beat him but if he doesn't and Toney does pull the upset Dana will find someone else in the UFC that will beat Toney.

Anyway I cannot see this fight happening. It just seems like a surreal dream. Even more bizzare than Tito V Dana!

Similar , but boxing wise Toney is much more well known than Mercer, and MMA wise Couture is a lot more well known than Sylvia. Its Mercer/Sylvia X 10.

I think it is a combination of these two things= I think both of you are right- if that makes sense.

I think people care very much about this stupid fight - as a freakshow. many fans want couture to win for mma, and many want toney to win for boxing, point is many people care and are backing their man -essentially their sport. then of course, the grappler vs striker angle.

that said no one expects to see toney go into mma with a few months training and beat a veteran in randy couture.

but the other side is dana white wins financially either way. if toney loses it "proves" UFC is superior to boxing more leverage for the sport of mma and more money in the pocket of dana. If toney wins, holy ****! UFC fans will be pissed, angry, and hate james toney: the trash talkin negro:twisted: down to their very core. as we well know if you hate something enough you will pay attention to it, you will spend money even, just to see him finally get what he deserves = mo money for dana.

If he is victorious afterwords, it would be better for toney to keep winning and his fights. every ppv will break all time records for viewership simply because he is the ultimate ufc heel: old, black, and dont give a ****!

scurlaruntings is correct, it is "a pointless fight with ZERO significance," but it also will generate a ton of money, and when toney loses it will add to the credibility of mma. But if Toney can somehow pull it off = Ca$h Cow.

:huh Dana is smart.....he knows he can spin this any way he wants in favor of his brand. Randy loses he lost b/c he's 47......Tony wins he can say that Toney is the real deal and his improvement as a MMA fighter was apparent. Either way he'll make out b/c of how easily this situation is to spin.

Gonzaga and crocop would be worst cuz both likes to strike so toney has a better chance of winning by KO.

:huhIf Randy loses blah blah or if Toney wins blah blah, either way...?
Randy losing and Toney winning are the same thing. It's the same "spin" either way because it is the same thing.

I don't get it. Everything always has to be so sinister and "spun" by Dana White all the time. It's obvious that Dana thinks that Toney is going to lose, and most MMA fans think he is going to lose, and if he wins it is obviously going to be because either

    A) He was "lucky/skillful" (depending on how you look at it) enough to land a KO punch before Randy takes him down
    or
    B) He has improved enough at MMA to beat a guy like Randy Couture, either by being able to avoid the ground game or survive on the ground long enough to stand up at the begining of the next round and win.

Either A or B means that James deserves another fight in the UFC of course, and against a guy that most MMA fans will think will beat him (just like most think Randy will). Toney is 42 years old, it doesn't make sense to try to bring him along over the course of many fights. We know he has great standup. He isn't fighting Brock, or Valesquez, or any number of higher ranked heavyweights that would pose a greater challenge.

Dana wants money and people want to see Toney fight a real MMA fighter not see him fight (and probably lose to anyways) a novice. You are right when you say that Dana is smart but you are wrong when you say why. Dana is smart because he puts on fights that people want to see because that is how he makes lots and lots of money.
