In history it's probably Tunney. Right now, it's probably Wlad, but he deserves some of the blame. He's got a boring, cautious style and that is not what most people want to see. But you can't argue with the results.

Some good mentions. Tim Austin is one I never feel got his true props either. He's best known for being a Marquez victim I would say. He was a very rounded and dangerous fighter at bantamweight for me, a rangy, quick, powerful southpaw.

 

John Ruiz, always being criticized, never being taken serious...
But unlike chubby contenders like Arreola and Chambers, he gets the job done!!

I haven't read the thread but I would generally categorize lower weight fighters to be underappreciated. They don't get enough exposure due to the lack of interest, or perhaps vice versa. It's the hen-and-egg-question all over again...

Montiel has an excellent run with one of the best wins of the year. He should belong in everyones p4p top ten list. When on form he's an excellent fighter. He's my pick.

Some of the fighters from Eastern Europe also qualifies. Erdei and especially Dzinziruk are fighters who had p4p top 10/20 potential and have been in some good fights. Still, the recognition of two skilled fighters is lacking.

From the past, it's like the poster above states; Kalambay. Outside the hardcore fans spectra, he's unknown. Truly great fighter.

 

Great post. I feel the "little guys" don't get the credit in the world because people outside of boxing overrate the heavyweight division and there's trully no competition in it between the top guys so people are turned off by that. Great shoutout to Montiel I'll watch more of him and maybe I'll become a fan of his. There's never a limit on how many fighters you can be a fan of. If there was, I would've passed it lol.
