Alot of hate on mma in this thread but the truth is they will beat boxers 9/10 times. Pac, floyd, mosley, b-hop and all the other greats will lose to B-level fighters in mma. Other than floyd i am a huge fan of those boxers i listed, but people say if an mma fighter did boxing he would get K.O'd but in a fight what will a boxer do to stop the mma fighter from takin him down and beating him?? Get over it, what everyone knew in the back of their mind was proved tonight... James toney lost to a wrestler whos record is 20-10 and is 47 years old.
Beebs... that is a very much a fraction of Vale Tudo. Majority of Vale Tudo matches included 2 rules. No biting and no eye gouging. I have not seen much of Rio Heros, but i highly doubt that a triangle choke is an effective fight ender if eye gouging, and biting is allowed. But, i must admit ignorance in this because i havnt thouroughly checked it out. Which im about to, seems interesting. Fact remains that much of mma's grappling science goes out the window when 'real fighting' is taking place. Deny it all you want but your only deluding yourself. UFC isnt a 'real fight' :good
Bulshitt there is a reason that great boxers start in gyms when they are kids, he would need a different set of skills not less skill thats just idiotic , you put an mma fighter in a ring with him and he would be outclassed and embarrased. Same the other way around its like saying you need less skills to play basketball then football.
 atsch Obviously, you don't know anything about self-promoting. Toney had to talk ****, because that is how you make big bucks. It happens in every sport. Whoever is talking the loudest and is talking ****. More often than not they will lose and they are just doing it because they see big $$$. If Toney just said "oh yea I'm just doing it for the money" he would have never been allowed to step in the ring...octagon, whatever. Also, why do think he has been calling out the "Bitchkos?" He wants one final big payday. The Klitschko's are the best right now, and they fill up 100,000 areans. Toney knows he would get starched and everybody knows it. The Klitschko's didn't bite so he moved to MMA and he got his wish, and he got his big payday. I'm sure he'll be trying to milk this off somemore before the circus effect wears off.
Ah yes, I should have known that this was a top notch poster...and sure enough it was the man. Great post Mr. Kirk.
again, I guess I should have been more literal with my statement. It was a loose statement and its why I put "HAHAHAHAHA" at then end because i know MMA guys have been in boxing and failed. That was all explained in this thread and i have already noted that I actually do know MMA guys have tried boxing. Just as I know there are guys in MMA with boxing backgrounds. Trying to tear down MMA is a joke though, and its something most pure boxing fans try to do. And as big of a fan of boxing as I am, im not going to get on that bandwagon and say dumb **** like MMA is a skill that takes no talent to compete in. Guys like you try to discredit it. yea yea yea. . . MMA isnt the same as street fighting but you know, Boxing is far away from it as well. EDIT* And BTW, i didnt say this fight had anything to do with MMA vs Boxing, my entire point is that Coture waxed the floor with Toney and he deserves his due respect for it. A boxer came into his sport, called him out, and Coture dished it out to him. Its ****ed up and childish that "boxing fans" cant give Randy props for putting Toney in his place. That is really all.
That Toney could have been the best boxer ever and it wouldn't have mattered, he didn't use the requisite skills to be able to use that boxing, he was on his back before he threw a punch, so what is being better at boxing going to do for him? The issue is that boxers lack any ability to keep the fight in a situation where they can actually box; in boxing they have the ref and rules to let it happen, remove those and they are left pretty helpless.
As for as sports are concerned. The best of MMA can never compare to the best of boxing. The ebbs and flow of a highly action-packed skilled 12 round fight is the greatest thing in sports. MMA is quick intense spurts of excitement. The difference between a quickie and a 30 minute ****.
James Toney.... Gros criss de tas d'marde bon a'rien. YÉ FINI atsch He ruined my birthday with that sh*tty performance. DAMMIT all my friends was rooting for Couture (MMA) and I was the one rooting for Toney (boxing). At least I'M still drunk :yep:yep:yep
Guys like me? Is your reading ability as stunted as your logic? When have I ever tried discrediting MMA in anything that wasnt the truth? Did you read how i put there is a science to mma? I respect mma for what it is, just another combat sport. It has its own science and has its own storied history of hard men and its own legends. I take nothing away from that. Its mma fans like you who spout stupid and ignorant statements that i address, and if i critic mma, its not to tear down mma but to unveil reality. MMA is not for me, but it is fun to train in, as i have, and i respect it as a sport and its fighters for the most part. and what? :blood:huh Point me where that has ever been the point of anything related to boxing.... nobody says 'boxing is REAL fighting' however, the attitude of many mma fans on the subject is apparent, that they somehow are fans of a sport that is 'more real' then boxing. So your statement on 'well... boxing isnt eather' doesnt really mean jack because, nobody has claimed it IS real fighting. They are all nothing but controlled combat sports, that through variance, (mma) or reduction (boxing) come to its own form of practise. Nothing more, nothing less. Randy gets props... sure. But in proper context. He was fighting a guy whos move to mma is solely based on trying to fight for his next paycheck. How much props am i supposed to give Couture fighting an old fat shot fighter whos only IN coutures sport because he can no longer compete in his own? Its Toneys fault, yes.... and Randy only did what he should have done (also, much respect for Randy keeping it respectful afterwards) and Toney brought all this on himself, and i give Randy props i guess for winning. But i guess i dont see this flood of respect i should be giving Randy in this situation. Props to Randy for winning the fight, no doubt... but i also keep it in the context of, it was a freak, meaningless side show fight that Toney had no chance in to begin with (not because he was a boxer, but because he was old, fat, shot, and one of the few fighters too ignorant and stupid to take any sort of mma training seriously) and i said this from when the fight was announced. anyways, im outta here... I give Randy props, he did what he was supposed to do, and Toney brought this all on himself. The man needs to retire.
