Hazzard removed from boxing post Home News Tribune Online 11/15/07 By JOSEPH SKREC CORRESPONDENT Larry Hazzard, a ringside fixture for more than two decades as New Jersey's top boxing official, was KO'd from his powerful pugilism position Wednesday, according to sources. Kim Ricketts, a senior administrator in the Division of Law and Public Safety, delivered the news to Hazzard on behalf of state Attorney General Anne Milgram around 4 p.m. in Trenton, two boxing sources said Wednesday night. Deputy commissioner Sylvester Cuyler is the state's acting boxing commissioner, according to a source. The sources requested anonymity because the news was not released to the public. Attempts to reach Hazzard, who was escorted out of the building upon receiving the news, were unsuccessful. "This is a shock," one of the sources said. Then-Gov. Tom Kean appointed Hazzard commissioner of the state Athletic Control Board in 1985. Hazzard was sworn in on Feb. 27, 1986.

I know Larry was not perfect but he's a good guy and would never let a fighter suffer in the ring. I have some idea why they removed him in Jersey and it had nothing to do with his integrety as far as boxing was concerned.:hat
The real reason Larry Hazzard was fired is because he was a straight shooter and couldn't be bought. It's the same old Jersey political crap if you don't play in the dirt you wont play long. You must have "just cause" nowadays,unless Hazzords contract ran out and in that case ,no probs.Something went down otherwise a massive law suit would ensue.It is just too quiet on Larry's part,so I smell a "rat".:deal
Larry Hazzard served at the mercy of a bunch of political hacks it was no way he will file a complaint. Anyways in the fight game it's best not to trash your former bosses if you want to keep on working. Larry Hazzard is a stand up guy and he will be offered a better deal some place else. As long as the bums control the sports game in Jersey it will always be slimy. Some guys here at this site are pretty wise to what I'm saying here.
Hazzard was a grandstander who loved to get attention for himself overruling his refs and jumping into the ring when he should have the officials handle matters. One more than one occasion, this led to fights being stopped prematurely, before their natural conclusion. Good RIDDANCE.
I'd much rather have someone who occasionally grandstanded, then, watch the debacle that's occurred in New York over the past few years. Hazzard was many things- not all of them good- but he knows boxing, and isn't a political hack. Mark my words, Zak...there will come a time when you'll wish Hazzard was in charge, as opposed to a political lackey who only cares about how the job benefits him and his associates.
I have no quarrel with Hazzard's handling of his adminstrative duties - as far as I know, it's been exemplary. If ONLY he stuck to just doing that and didn't want to be "star of the show" so much. His behavior at fights has at times been deplorable. I can't even remember all the times he upstaged his own refs, that's how bad it was. He just did it again in a fight this year.
