mma fighters have more training in all areas of fighting techniques.... boxing and mma should not be put in the same category and fighters should not be compared and especially not put into fights like this past one... boxing is a much more finesse and scoring oriented sport as opposed to mma's brutal backyard brawl style...

Toney is a pretty good boxer and he lost. I think the same would have happened to Mayorga had he went through with that match of his in MMA.

Assuming the MMA fighter is dumb enough to stand and trade.
As you can see Ray Mercer is 1-1 vs MMA. He won vs Silva because Silva got cocky and wanted to trade.
Mercer was sub'd by a inept fighter name Kimbo Slice. Kimbo Slice - a dude that got sit on by an amateur MMA fighter. Kimbo was a street brawler with near ZERO grappling or submission skills.
Add the Toney results and you have 2-1 in MMA's favor.

Give Silva 10 more tries with Mercer and I guarantee you 10 wins for Silva. The moment Silva tries to stand up it will be 9.9 out 10 for Mercer (.1 for Silva doing some freaking wild swing with eyes closed hitting Mercer on the temple).

That punchers chance is always there in boxing and MMA. But in MMA you can easily negate that by an easy take down in the opening bell. From there, you can literally just sit on the guy and win the round since the take down and staying in mount control gets you points (similar to ring generalship in boxing).

    How about Vitaly in MMA?

I mean he is as bad as they come - he is huge, strong and he can kick and punch like no one else. It would take a supreme judo expert to beat that.

Kimbo vs Mercer was an exhibition fight

if you look at Mercer's pro MMA record he's 1-0

I think you got that the wrong way around! Check Mercer KO'ing Tim Sylvia in the octogon against err...??? Who? Nobody. A good boxer can strike better than ANY MMA fighter. But what can a MMA guy do better than a boxer in a boxing ring? Answer = Nothing!!

I wish Don King wouldn't of prevented the Mayorga vs Din Thomas fight from taking place. El Matador would of destroyed Thomas in that MMA match, believe that.

Really, who gives a ****? In the end, the boxers are laughing all the way to the bank, cuz mma fighters dont make **** in comparison - the only person gettin paid in the ufc is Gayna White.

    It's irrelevant..

Take Semmy Schilt for ex..(kickboxer...multiple HW champ. and he's 6 ft 11

That's what happened to him against Kharitonov (russian sambo artist)

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evWcmZ5B1O0[/ame]

Here is the same Semmy schilt under kickboxing rules..

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcFllJ74uDc[/ame]

Keep in mind , Semmy actually knows how to submit opponents in mma. He's a kickboxer who also had a lot of experience in mma. (compared to your average striker)...

Here's a 265 lbs kickboxer vs a small Judoka (the kickboxer actually manages to win this fight but still...he's forced to struggle on the ground and the opponent isn't even as big as he is)

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5elZZfpmXjg[/ame]

Here's another top striker..(fast & very powerful too)... vs a judoka..

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HolZF-Nr_i0[/ame]

Here's the legendary muaythai fighter , Ramon Dekker under MMA rules

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-QYl02-eBQ[/ame]

here is the same guy in muay thai (that guy is a machine ! )

I don't think you get it...

If toney would've been in his prime...if he would've been younger and in better shape , it wouldn't have changed anything because "prime" Toney is just as clueless as "past prime" toney in the grappling department..

Prime Toney doesn't magically know greco or jiujitsu right ?

What in the hell is a prime boxer gonna do about a takedown ?

Boxers can win under mma rules of course...But only if the opponent in front of them decides to trade and play the boxer's game...Smart fighters will just use a very safe gameplan and not risk getting koed.

What exactly is your point? Mine was that an elite boxer would beat an elite MMA fighter more frequently under boxing rules than the MMA fighter would win under MMA rules. And I did say elite. Silva is an elite MMA fighter, Mercer wasn't even elite when he was in his prime. Put Silva in there with a Klitschko and see if he wins one of ten. Heck, he wouldn't win one in a hundred.

Also, you cannot negate a puncher's chance. If I had the time or the inclination I could post ten clips of good MMA strikers Kayoing grapplers with punches when they went for the takedown. Chuck Liddell has several of them. So saying that a professional boxer could not repeat that feat is patently ridiculous.

I was talking to my bro about this right after. Why not make it a challenge, have Cotoure enter the boxing ring vs. Toney now. Only way to make the challenge legit and fair.
